Daytime running lights to me is pointless that’s why on my 97 chevy tahoe i took the relay off
Why would you want daytime running lights? Everybody I know including me hated them!
While you are at it, my 1997 GMC Jimmy’s daytime running lights work just fine but I have an intermittent problem with the lights going from high beam to low beam? I suspect the relay since the switch normally causes the lights to go on and off? Anyhow great info about that diode.
Hey man, thanks for that awesome info. I will try that out!
Hello Friend , that little box is called the “DIODE”, It lets the power travel in only one direction. If you bench test it you can connect a car bulb in series and see if it is bright or dim..If the bulb is dim then it is no good , the diode that is., also the voltage thru it should not drop less than 10 volts. anything over 10 is good , like 10.15 etc. peace.
I just pulled the fuse on mine because first of all truck looks better without them and second I have low beam HID
@gohman94 yes, just supplied with a lower voltage.
are the drls the same bulb as the headlights?
@Vanessa S The dash lights only come on when you turn the light switch. Daytime Running Lights are simply lower voltage headlights that are on during the day when your ‘real’ headlights arent on.
does your dash lights stay on when running lights on
@schecterkid82 Yes, green light stays on even when drl’s didnt work.
did your green ligh looking thing still pop on when your drls didnt work?
How do you get that thing out? My 96 sierra needs one.
Get a dimmer switch
thank u i had this problem that my mechanic wanted to change all these wires and it was an easy fix
I have to pull my e brake up with my foot and pull the e brake switch at the same time for my 96 k1500 single cab it’s a pain cuz when I push down on the e brake the daylights shut off… Strange wiring
Yes! I remember that happening. On one day then off another and so on…
I got the same problem with my 96 2500 td did your headlights also shut off n come back on once in awhile
Nice truck! I just picked up a 1997 Sierra 4×4 (Summit white as well) and noticed the headlight indicator lights up on the dash when the DRL’s are on. Is this normal? my newer S-series Jimmy has no indicator when the daytime runners are on
Thanks in advance
Hey, I replied to your comment on my other vid. But it’s CoverKing. Can’t remember what the material is called but it’s the standard carpet one, not one of those weird shiny ones…
random question. What dash board cover is that? What material did you go with?
i took mine out on a 99 yukon and set it manual.
Absolutely, the only way to do it! Bend the tabs with a pair of pliers…
In these trucks, the DRL’s are lower powered lights that stay on constantly. It’s still the same headlight just with a lower voltage going to it. I like them just because it makes the vehicle look newer.
@ CleverlyTwisted what is daytime running lights? is it like the lights automatically comes on when it’s a little dark out side right
This is going to be the problem 98% of the time. Just had the same issue and went to the junk yard for $5 and got it fixed. Its called the daytime running light diode.
wen u connected ur deck did u have problems with ur battery holding charge cuz i have a 97 gmc just like u and i connected a stereo and now my batery wont hold charge…can u help me
If you look closely at it you’ll see little metal tabs that you bend out of the way. Then you slide it out and unplug. That’s it.
Now how do you actually replace that part?
It’s just called the DRL for ‘Daytime Running Lights’. If your looking in the book, there is nothing regarding it…
what is this rely called !! ..um.. i mean is it something else different than the DRL relay in the fuse box !?
Thanks for the heads up went to the junk yard and got the piece, works like a charm
Yep. Just unplug and they’ll turn off.
So could you unplug the relay to turn off the running lights?…i like bein able to cruise around with just ambers on when it just starts gettin dark lol
That’s the 4×4 stick, not the gear stick. It’s an automatic.
man… why your sierra have the gear stick to the floor???? thanks
stealership still asking outrages prices for a piece that goes on a 14+ year old vehicle
Yes, headlights still worked like normal. I just didn’t have the “constant on” daytime running lights… I wanted that because I feel it makes my truck look newer.
could you still turn you head lights on by the switch with out that thing.
I am an honest man, that’s why.
why would u pay for it put it in ur pocket
Five dollars is a win!
