The Common GM EVAP Code How to Diagnose and Repair

I Cover how to diagnose and repair that pesky EVAP code. It is much easier than you think and can easily be fixed at home. The p0455 large leak, the p0449 or p0446 vent control circuit and even the p0456 small leak codes are very common issues found on today’s cars.

Paul says:

The newer trucks have the filter and valve seperated by a length of hose don't they?

Jerry Umfress says:

My 2007 Silverado has both codes, pretty sure it's the evap solenoid by the fuel tank. The guy I bought it from had a grass cutting business, but the truck just now has 75k miles. It was very dirty underneath. I had both codes associated with this issue, po449 po445, which is the vapor purge valve on top of the intake manifold. I'm gonna change it as well. I usually do a resistance test on stuff, but the old timer I bought the truck from had run over a lot of open ground when he was running his landscaping business, and the top of the old valve was almost off. I've seen a bunch of videos on this very issue and yours is the most detailed, thanks!

Randy Mixon says:

Great video. I have the P0445 and P0449 Faults. I tried replacing the purge valve under the hood first as it was easier to access. Did not resolve the issue. Anyone know where I can find a video of how to replace the canister on a 2010 Tahoe LTZ

Ed Jo says:

What are the chances that the code might be due to gas cap?

Sutton Shiver says:

What is a P1746 code?

Peter Wall says:

I will try that on my 2014 GMC Sierra thanks for the video

Patrick Walker says:

My 06 2500HD evap canister valve went out for the 3rd time. This round I'm going to add a remote pcv filter. BTW thank you showing how to test with 12v.

Chris says:

I had the code for almost a year after i swapped a fuel pump. I had a hard time finding what was causing it. It ended up being an o-ring on a hard line that went from the solenoid sensor into the evap cannister. The o-ring was inside a female connector.

IT? says:

Is it worth doing it? I have an O6 cat eye silverado…I bought an Obd to clear it…It only last a few days and comes back on…If you don't replace it, what's the deal?

Donald Shelton says:

Has anyone started producing an emulator that will prevent EVAP codes?

Guitar Dave says:

Great Video , I thank you so much .

terry williams says:

one of the best videos I have seen.. you do a great job and are very tolerable compared to a lot of others..Thanks a million, my wife is gonna love you because she will be able to use her elec. start this mich winter.

Richard Johnson says:

That’s what a box of female sanitary napkins is for especially if you fleet goes down dirt roads. install and replace every oil change on some FedEx vans. Ford vans have a separate box before the solenoid.

Tony Desousa says:

I have a 2015 Chev Malibu with 177000 km and it shows code 0089 and code
0016. Code 0089 says it's the fuel pressure regulator and the 0016
says it's the bank 1 camshaft position sensor. I called the dealership for the price of the FPR and they tell me they don't have one on the computer. A dummy like me believes him because I don't find any videos of anyone working on the 2015 which seems to be different than the others in the engine. Any information would be a appreciated as I have no clue where to find, even the line to fuel pressure test. Thanks

TFitz says:

Hope to hear some good tricks in there because I have performed these replacements three times and keeps throwing code. Sometimes will stop for a bit after replacement, but not long.

Scott Sheffield says:

great video and very detailed explanation on testing it.

Kev C says:

have a silverado 1500hd 6l 2005 have this po449 code changed evap canister, filter etc scanned it still same po449 so i changed evap purge valve on intake, still po449 code…what next??/

BlueDrive Diagnostics says:

Good job and keep it up

jamesb1221222 says:

I have 4 GM cars and trucks, all of them have evap issues. The evap systems on these are poorly engineered. Went through 3 vent valve solenoids on my 04 silverado and it's still having issues. Gave up and have been ignoring the cel for 5 years now. For some reason local emissions station don't plug into obd2 ports on 2500hd trucks here

Nick Stevens says:

If you wouldn’t mind taring a whole vortec 5.3 apart piece by piece, system by system and doing a video of it all I would highly appreciate that! Really though, You made an awesome informative video man! Thanks for your time/help.

anthonynewborn says:

I’m looking for the right part number for my 05 Denali any suggestion?

Austin says:

Probably the best video I have seen regarding the evac. Thank you! I have a p0449 and have already replaced the purge valve. I will try the vent valve next.

Manny Silva says:

Can this cause a misfire?
