Christina McQueen says:

Hello,
We turned off water to our house a few weeks ago to work on the plumbing.
Before then our Ice Maker was working perfect. After we turned our water
back on it stopped working. We unplugged the fridge/freezer and let it thaw
out. But its still not making ice (Do you need to turn the Ice Maker off
when you shut off water to your house??) Water works perfectly. We pulled
out the ice bucket and preformed the ice maker diagnostic test but nothing
happened. No turn and no water filled.
After we turned on the water to the house we noticed that the ice makers
green light WAS flashing green. Now its a solid green.. Any ideas what
could be wrong? It can’t be broken since it was working before the water
was shut off to the house.

Thank you so much for providing this video. It was not only great for
troubleshooting – it showed me how to fix the ice maker. That would have
been a pricey service call and that’s IF I got an honest repair person.
Thank you again very much.

Derek Boone says:

I have the same problem. It did dispense cubes at first but only crushed
now. Did you get it resolved?

GE Appliances says:

Hi Peter – Thanks for reaching out to us. I am happy to help. Some ice
makers have a wire bail, which acts as an on-off switch. To stop ice
production, lift this arm up. If your model does not have this design, and
you have an electronic display on the front of the freezer door, you may
have a pad that controls this operation. To turn the ice maker off, press
the “Ice Off/Lock” pad once, and let it go immediately. The words “ICE OFF”
should appear. I hope this helps! Thanks, Jill with GE

Larry Erickson says:

GE Ref (GRS18HCMSRWW) Icemaker: When turned on the ice-maker will not stop
filling with water. But when the on/off control arm is raised to the off
position the water stops. what part do I replace?

GE Appliances says:

Hi Art – I am happy to help. If the ice is clumped or frozen together in
the bin, it may dispense only crushed ice, or no ice at all. Remove the bin
and dump the ice into a clean bowl. Rinse the bin with warm water, dry it
with a clean towel, and place only the separated ice back into the bucket,
taking care to remove any large clumps or small shavings of ice. Place the
bin back into the freezer and try dispensing again. I hope this helps!
Thanks, Jill with

Barry L says:

Thanks ! This Diagnostic Test saved me MONEY.

Peter Holt says:

My GE Profile has an internal icemaker but no apparent On-Off switch or
On-Off light. Can you help? Thanks…

GE Appliances says:

Hi Marcos, if during the diagnostic test the icemaker rake did not move or
water did not fill the mold it is recommended to call for an icemaker
replacement. If the icemaker light does not come on I suggest you check the
on/off switch or the icemaker plug. If the light comes on, I suggest you
try the diagnostic test again. If you are unable to get the light on the
icemaker to come on I recommend service. I hope this information is
helpful. Alison with GE
