Thank you for making this video! my turn signal snapped inside of my
steering column and wanted to look for a video showing me the best way to
remove the steering wheel and what not. Your video is perfect! Thanks
again!

Camo Jeep says:

good stuff man

DaddyJangALang says:

That was a great how-to. If that is close to how my 92 YJ works, I cant
thank you enough

bleepinjeep says:

hopefully sooner than later

Arthur Stacey says:

when are you starting on the new jeep?

Arthur Stacey says:

they will as long as you DO NOT buy the cylender from the dealer.

bleepinjeep says:

cool, thanks for the tips!

bleepinjeep says:

sure, thanks for subbing!

Three1Fo says:

Great video, Matt! Couple of points: 1. My XJ key wouldn’t turn & started
to smell an electrical burn. Tore it down only to figure out it was the
Ignition Switch (also a common problem). 2. The steering wheel torque is
only 25 ft.lb. for re-install. 3. The metal plate between the center button
& horn plunger is slightly concave. It looks flat but needs to be
re-installed w/ the bulge facing the driver to give the spring effect.

Atacama777 says:

Nice video, thanks for sharing your knowledge, good luck.

Matt, I got this great new job 45 mi. away. On the way home yesterday an
alarm went off. Today, my 2001 jeep wrangler sport started but none of the
gauges work. No gas, battery, temp. nothing. Radio & lights work but that’s
all. I helped a lady jump her car last week & wondered if I messed
something up. My battery connections seem tight & clean. Could it be a
fuse? Let me know what you think. I don’t know where to start on this one.
Any advice before I have to go to work on Monday???? Thxs

duke3oh8 says:

Thanks, i needed a visual on how to get into the column. Now I’m just
trying to be patient as my lock spring is not being very cooperative

l337pwnage says:

I had to do that in my CJ cuz you could start it without even using the
key, lol. I’ve gotten that lock plate clip off by depressing the lock plate
with my feet, but that is the PITA way to do it. Using the tool is MUCH
easier.

bleepinjeep says:

possible, but the thieves don’t mind just breaking the whole steering
column, much quicker…

bleepinjeep says:

thanks for the heads up!

Norman Shotwell says:

thanks matt i was freaking out my 94 wrangler i pulled the key out b4 it
waas in the lock positon and i put it in nthe lock position and the key
would not go back in called autozone they said i would have to replace the
lock cylinder so i found you video cause the hynes manual had me all sorts
of confused and intimidated untill i watched this and it was a vbreeze
thanks alot keep up the good work god bless you

DEFiANCE665 says:

The lock doesnt look too bad, but from what Ive seen the switch isnt very
fun.

bleepinjeep says:

dont know but what I usually do is get on autozone and enter the info for
the 92 and get a part number, then enter the info for the 13 and see if
they are the same part.

bleepinjeep says:

probably so if the key looks the same.

bleepinjeep says:

SWEET, thanks!

l337pwnage says:

naw, but I’ve done P90X ;p I’ve replaced ignitions on a couple of those
columns, and I think I initially tried that cuz I didn’t know the special
tool even existed(pre-internet, lol) 😉 The CJ was the toughest though cuz
the seat didn’t go back very far, I ended up eventually just renting the
tool for that one because someone eventually told be about the tool after
I’d done a couple columns. So after trying my feet on the CJ for a 1/2 hour
I put my pride aside and rented the tool. 😉

HIPPIE1255 says:

props on your channel, same on your web page! Great stuff…You have
patience which about all I ever had with techs I trained. Great information
for people who are cursed with a Jeep. lol. I scribed ya! BTW that little
pice you had trouble with, the horn thing? well 30 years ago I had the same
problem, that part got left out of thousands of Jeeps..haha. great job! (I
have 6 jeeps)

bleepinjeep says:

might have worked, it wasn’t on there real tight. I know someone who has a
permanent crooked nose from doing that as a kid but the nut was all the way
off.

mhood121 says:

Does your horn still work? I did this and broke something to it but don’t
actually know what I broke to be able to fix it, lol thanks

bleepinjeep says:

There should be a fuse dedicated only to guages and labeled as such. On
mine the fuse panel is under the dash. Don’t remember where on the wrangler
but you should be able to find it.

Ken Bradford says:

for bleepinjeep can i replace a 1992 chevy ignition with a 2013 chevy
ignition module?

CNHRC says:

Matt, I will GLADLY buy a hat and t-shirt from your website! Your video was
the key to success as yesterday I followed your instructions from this
video and less than 45 minutes later I was driving my Jeep again with a new
ignition cylinder and key installed. I really can’t thank you enough!
You’ve made a mechanic out of me!

bleepinjeep says:

ya, this is one of those jobs that can drain your wallet if taken to the
dealer but is very simple to do yourself!

Rick Nuttall says:

Will this same process work for a 1985 CJ7? it looks like a typical GM
steering wheel not bad at all just need to right tools.

Steve Dey says:

Hey thanks for the video, really helped me. Mine is an 81 Scrambler. Only a
few minor differences to point out. Autozone part numbers was a time saver.
1. CJ did not have the extra tab after removing the turnsignal switch. 2.
Old OEM lock did not use a set screw, just push the tab with a screw
driver. But the replacement lock required a set screw. So I had to dig
around in the garage for screw that would set and hold the lock well. Might
suggest disconnecting the battery.

AngkieSudiro says:

thats a neat way to steal a cherokee 😀

CNHRC says:

You are awesome! I am mechanically “short bus” and this video is fantastic.
I am rolling quarters these days and have a jeep Cherokee I won’t even put
more than $10 in gas in it because at any minute it could just lay down and
die on me. It has a perpetual “Come to me Jesus” look in its eyes so when I
lost the keys to the Jeep your video was a salvation. BTW, I am TOTALLY
crushing on you and would gladly buy you dinner and a beer were you ever in
Grand Island, NE. Thanks so much!
