Super Kid Rc says:

Thanks so much for the video I just did a clutch job and took the starter out when it came time to put starter back in I noticed 2 wires and couldn't remeber where the extra wire went thanks again

James King says:

I'm having to do this on my 07 Malibu w/ the 2.2L engine & same starter. I was able to get the mounting bolts off, but it just doesn't come off. Tried what you did with the screwdriver/hammer, tapping it with a hammer & spraying the gap with penetrating fluid (Liquid Wrench), but it still refuses to come off. Any ideas?

d2excess says:

OMG thanks so much for this trick. After nearly two hours of struggling to get the top bolt on i found this vid and was done in 10 mins after watching.

Duck Hunter says:

Chevy's worst car ever invented. Maintenance hog. I was doing a compression test, then all of a sudden the starter craped out lol.

Dan Doyle says:

Well I done doed it. Rebuilt starter ( looks to me like Bosch) from NAPA with guarantee as long as I am owner. On my VW is was much simpler (could and did do it in the dark) so those $40 Autozone starters were okay, although I went through about 6 on their guarantee. They were't counting on a Perma-Car. Finally, I got a brand new Bosch and that was the end game. It will last 20 years–not 1 or two. But this NAPA should last a good long time. I bought a clutch kit from NAPA and it is still going strong after 16 years.
Anyway back to the Saturn, much easier to install than remove. But same problem with the cable going on the stud. The reason is simply there is not enough play in the harness and opening the harness tie did not help much. I finally got it on enough to torque it down with the nut. I guess it is easier to install the wires before installing the starter, but I didn't know that. I found that the lug fit on the stud. It is only the angle that creates the problem. Do like the Original did. I put a little dielectric grease on the terminals.
So thanks for very helpful video.

Dan Doyle says:

On my Saturn L100 the woe is much increased by the preheater box in the way. I like your idea of wedging the upper bolt into the socket. I intend to do it tomorrow. Took it out today. If that bolt gets lost up there it would mean taking the starter out again. I used a bar clamp to hold the box aside. Difficult, for a starter job.

Fernando boss says:

You should off put neverseize on the face of the housing so would not get stuck again

Great video. I have to replace the oil pressure sensor (leaking oil) that fits right above the starter. With the starter out of position I can see clearly where it is.
THANKS!!!

Thanks for volunteering to change the starter if/when it goes out. Looks difficult… lol

Jeremy of New Scotland says:

Thank you so much, this repair was a brute and wouldn't have been possible without your help! We ended up using my cellphone camera to see the position of the upper bolt and the paper trick was crucial to getting it back in.

Matt Melvin says:

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! I've never done more than an oil change or spark plugs, so tackling the starter on my son's car was a leap. You saved us a giant bill from the garage: Replaced the dead starter with a $50 one from a scrap yard. Really appreciate you taking the time to make and post this. Best advice: The cardboard/paper in the socket to hold the upper bolt. (It was tricky, but not as bad as I thought it would be)

mykul koplan says:

Thank you for taking the time to film and post this man!!!! Seriously
