I have a 1998 Pontiac Bonneville SSE ( Non supercharged ) with littler over 71k Miles. I´ve been experiencing some bubbling sound in my Coolant Reservoir Tank. Do you think an Upper intake manifold change is needed?.

NWB1989 says:

Those engines are very superior, but one thing I don’t like about them is the intake plenum is plastic.

i have a buick with this same engine. when i crank her up she smokes as if the head gasket is blown but i did notice some oil around the upper intake. So maybe this is the same problem. Great video

I purchased a replacement.

Jesse King says:

what did you do to fix the warped intake?

Pcwizard20ghz says:

It can be quite a bit

Mario Myers says:

how much for labor on this

spelunkerd says:

Yeah, I understand and would have done the same.

Nick Stageberg says:

I agree. Unfortunately, I had already disassembled quite a bit to get to the intake manifold in anticipation of replacing the head gasket, and I had already ordered the head gasket kit, so I went ahead and did everything. I did not see any signs of failure on the head gasket when I removed it :/

spelunkerd says:

Nick, I really like the clear and logical and very professional way you moved through this repair.

I’m left with the notion that if you had to do this again you might be able to shorten the repair and just replace the upper intake manifold. That problem, with warping plastic on parts that are installed using low torque fasteners, seems to be an irritating epidemic on vehicles made in the last decade.
