long did it take you and how long do you think an average guy like me can
do this and yes ive worked on cars many times before but i wont have power

Kevin Hudson says:

I have a 1998 Sunfire GT and my K member is rotten and I found that out by
the garage that completely replaced my suspension parts, water pump which
they had to take the whole front end off twice. They also did the lower
control arm bushings but failed to mention that the k member was rotten
until I wanted to safety it. I have a large investment in the car now have
to the point that scraping it would be stupid. How much would it cost for a
used k member and to have it installed, ball park fig?

wasjunk11 says:

you sure did a great job for these folks We have heardhow bad cars get up
thereyou sure did yor part to keep your hiways safe the way we keep are
hiways safe is to leav it out side the biker bar with the radio on……and
its never seen again

boardingpass04 says:

@ShawnCFarm ya thers a good possibilty thats how its running like its not
getting enough fuel or air so it might be something to try

ShawnCFarm says:

@Kanuckbrewer If I had enuff, it will be a long time before I do another
one in the driveway

kevin92xj says:

Thought you were gonna slam on the brakes in reverse to unload the K-frame
for a second. haha.

ShawnCFarm says:

@bugnutz43847683 Sounds like fun lol

maxwellsworld says:

thanks for the vid . looks like it was a nasty job

Travis Babcock says:

Should just hit that old K frame with BFH and it would have just fell out
it was so rotted lol

ShawnCFarm says:

@swampratman2000 Now thats what I’m talking about.

brewzur says:

Shawn, would it be better to use anti-sieze on those bolts you oiled?

ShawnCFarm says:

@wazclan1964 They where just lucky it let go in town and not on the
highway. More to come lol

ShawnCFarm says:

@schark30 This car only has about two years left in her if that lol. If it
was mine I’d going get in under oiled now

ShawnCFarm says:

@gumpster66 I think the name just spilled over for other cars lol. I’v cut
them off before, its alot faster, and thanks more to come

ShawnCFarm says:

@krismounts I had that in mind lol

TheNeal666 says:

Is every old car that rusty? I live in California, not used to that. LOL

EdzGarage says:

Let’s hear it for Uncle Walter! You had a good teacher Shawn. Does the car
need to be aligned? Good job Buddy!

ShawnCFarm says:

@Shoetiefly This is very ture

Sv Shrader says:

didn’t know gm had what ya called a k frame.. thought k frames was mopar…
I changed out the complete k frame on a 1973 dodge dart swinger… was
quite a job… as for getting old ball joints off.. I just cut them.. had
to put a new set on a 1996 dodge stratus… just cut them.. but I measured
first so I was close till I got it to a shop to line it up.. love your vids
man.. tc.

ShawnCFarm says:

@boardingpass04 Might be cheaper to fix it

backwoods3214 says:

@ShawnCFarm find a car wash with under body wash send it there in the
spring when teh salt puddles are bad.

ShawnCFarm says:

@kevin92xj hahahah it crossed my mind, then I remembered my camera was there

bigpaw64 says:

i cant believe how rusty that k-frame was????

ShawnCFarm says:

@edzgarage It should be ok. It would not hurt to have it done just in case.
Thanks Ed

DanTheFordFixer says:

good tip I usually put never-seize on bolts cause odds are I will be seeing
that truck again

Bugnutz438 says:

I get to see the under side of A Saturn SC2 to do full brake job in a few
minutes. Got to love when family brings all their junk cause they know you
wont charge them.

ShawnCFarm says:

@netrioter I beleave it. Cars are ment to fail just after about 3 years or
about 60 to 70,000 km

monkeysatch says:

very cool vid

Shoetiefly says:

Good work. Agree about oiling bolts. I’m neurotic about it. In addition to
the good reasons you gave, you also get a better feel for tension, even on
smaller bolts. I think it is useless to use a torque wrench without
cleaning and lub film on the bolt. I also use antisieze on all blind holes.

ShawnCFarm says:

@mike29571 Thanks my friend

sc0tte1 says:

I’m a but surprised they just the the CVs out like that…but hey, it’s a
junkyard and they want stuff in and out as quickly as possible 😛 These
vids are quickly becoming the first ones I watch when I log on to the
Youtube. Totally great job Shawn, totally entertaining and educational 🙂
Keep it up buddy

ShawnCFarm says:

@sc0tte1 Thanks my friend and I’ll try to keep them intresting.

ShawnCFarm says:

@gs650gokart Thanks and more to come

netrioter says:

whoever owns this car is lucky to still be alive… last gen Crapaliers are
death traps, this vid proves it. The original ones that could handle the
2.8/3.1 V6 dont rust nearly as bad in these areas. GM cut costs wherever
possible in the 1995-2005 Cavalier and what you see in this video is the
end result of that, thinner stampings, lack of undercoating and designing
without repairs in mind. I still say GM intentionally designs cars to fail
after 10 years on the road..so you have to buy a new one

ShawnCFarm says:

@RoflmaoAtSheepeople I bought the farm off of my Mother just before all the
prices went up. It was cheap enuff, my Mother wanted to keep it in the
familly.

RoflmaoAtSheepeople says:

Yes Sir: I understand

ShawnCFarm says:

@hp11208 Thats not what I said lol

ShawnCFarm says:

@DanTheFordFixer I always end up fixing the old junk at work lol

ShawnCFarm says:

@Titliest07 If you hold a rang in front of it when its going back in ,it
helps lol

netrioter says:

@ShawnCFarm then again, i own a 1994 S-10 Blazer Tahoe LT (the loaded one)
4×4 with the 4.3 Vortec and 430,000 original,severely abused miles.I mean
its got a ton of problems, and ive put probably $2500 into it in 17 years
mechanically, but it wont die, bought it new and its a rust bucket from
being in Indiana for most of its life but the underneath of it is mostly
just surface rust with a tad of scaly rust on the body mounts. GM trucks
are the only sturdy things they build now.

foxdmulder says:

@kevin92xj could have done that with the car too to save the hastle of
removing it

ShawnCFarm says:

@totograbfarm Thanks friend. I’m glade I can help

ShawnCFarm says:

@nitrosport5 Ya this one took along time to do. I hate working on my back
in the driveway lol

ShawnCFarm says:

@backwoods3214 I haven’t bought any in a long time so not sure what they are

krismounts says:

oil those bolts up because, you will be the one working on it next
time,hahaha

jon green says:

when ever i put bolts back on i put anti seize on the threads

Devo says:

@backwoods3214 u can usually get refurbished ones from can tire for about
90 bucks, and they are practically brand new
