Did this on my ’03 about a month ago and the clunk is STILL gone! Awesome
fix!! Thanks man!!
HOLY SHIT IT WORK !!! THANKS BUNCH MARC !
I’m gonna try this during the weekend. How exactly did you guys secure your
steering wheels while performing this job? I don’t want to mess anything
up.
Was a little skeptical but tried this today, and i am very happy to say this
worked perfectly for me.Thanks alot!!!
Thanks Marc, an easy fix once I convinced the shaft to slide the first
time. Once it did the rest was easy.
James, I tried the fix above..did not cure. I found my problem and probably
your too. From the floor board under the steering wheel, look up to where
the upper intermediate shaft attaches. Just above that you will see a round
metal tube 2″ in dia. with a white plastic bushing sticking out 1/4″. That
bushing is loose and rattles with bumps. I got a 1/4″ #6 screw, drilled a
hole close to the end of that tube and drove the screw into the plastic,
anchoring it in place. works! Finally peace!
This works. Usually have the dealership lube the joint every 6 months to
get rid of the noise for $60. Worked exactly the same and takes 20 mins.
Another happy customer. THanks SOOOO Much!! Took longer to find my 15mm
socket than it took to do the fix.. Was a bit skeptical but thought I’d
give it a try. Glad I did. Hope it lasts a few thousand. You can feel it
immediately start kicking up the grease. THanks Again!!!
It worked like a charm for me and my Yukon drives like new with absolutely
no clunking now. It was a very easy procedure for me as my intermediate
shaft was easy to move up and down. Thanks Marc!
I sure hope this works for me
Hey guys I’m happy to report that after plenty of cleaning spray I too was
able to perform this resolution. However, for my truck, it was not the
magic bullet of luck some people are experiencing, while the fix was a
noticeable improvement it was not 100% fixing, i can still hear the clunk
under heavy braking and road bumps but there is a noticeable improvement. I
pumped the rod 100+ times in and out.
Being an expert at the required motion, I gave this fix a try. 10
minutes… year-old problem fixed! Marc you should post your PayPal account
here. I would send you ten bucks right now.
Dude, you rock. This has bugged me for a year. Simple, fast, free fix.
@breaks42: yep that’s all you have to do. The grease gets trapped at the
upper end of the shaft so all you’re doing is re-distributing it back where
it belongs.
Well if you followed my instructions, you didn’t do anything wrong. It may
take over 100 “ins & outs” before it’s good to go.
oh yeah, it worked on my 2007 Silverado classic 4.8L
it worked great! thank you!
After years of this darn clunking noise drove me nuts i found your video!
WOW it works, i stroked her 100 times and no more annoying noise! thanks bud
I ran across this yesterday right after buying a new shaft. I decided to
try this before I installed the new one. I ended up returning it.
So, what you are saying is, I have to give my truck a hand job every 10K
miles? Great!
Your awesome, my ‘ 03 Avalanche has had this problem for years I never knew
it could be this easy to fix. Thanks for the great video!
Worked for me too on my 2001 Silverado. I figured since the purpose of this
is to redistribute the grease, I also sprayed some dirt bike chain wax in
the top then pumped it some more. Thanks for the video.
Worked perfect on my 05 Tahoe! Thanks!
purchased a 02 Z71 recently and noticed the clunk. Watched this video, had
my kid hold the steering wheel for me, got a 15mm socket wrench and in
about 10 minutes total the problem was fixed! GREAT VIDEO!
Wow….. A blow job fixed my 04 Yukon Denali!!!! You’re the man baby!!!
I think I have a similar problem … the shaft is stuck in the lower end
after removing the bolt (and two rounds of Blaster). I tried a couple
different pairs of Vice Grips and channel locks and couldn’t get a good
grip on it due to all the HydroBoost plumbing in the way. How many “light
taps” did it take before it broke free?
