Great video, one thing to pass on. Be careful not to push the top pipe into
the block first, it can go in too far and WILL NOT come back out. The hole
is cut on a taper to the back. Trust me< idid it and it sucked, I had to break off the pipe and get another set of tubes. They only cost 4 dollars at auto zone.

I’ve replaced the belt on my 3800 Impala LS and now it is overheating. Belt
turn with no problem but car is overheating, would it just be the
thermostat? the water pump is new.

homeiss says:

@SteveXnycperformance Just wondering if the alternator assembly in the 2004
Chevy Impala 3.4L has the same L-brackets hoses as the 3800?

Blackbolt87 says:

Have a problem with my heat blowing lukewarm. Would this help?

gus0440446 says:

quick question did you just put the thermostat the wrong way?

SteveXnycperformance says:

@timothymbess Dexcool comes premixed 50/50 with WATER AND you can also buy
it fully concentrate with NO WATER and mix it yourself. All dexcool is NOT
premixed, do a search if you need to. I buy dexcool fully concentrated, not
mixed and then mix it myself, it is a lot cheaper doing it this way. The
comment I was responding to says to use fully concentrated without adding
water, this is not recommended by any manufacturer and is not good for the
car.

SteveXnycperformance says:

@soonerfreak1973 the leak might be coming from the O-ring seal on the
coolant outlet pipe at the lower intake manifold.Try to rent/buy a radiator
pressure tester,so u can pressurize the system while engine is cool.Once
the system is pressurize, it will be easier to identify the coolant leak.
Replace the thermostat with a “FAIL-SAFE”(thermostat).Make sure the cooling
fans cycle NO&OFF.Always use 100%(fully concentrated)coolant, not water.
Water damages the cooling system by corrosion.

Thank you, This was very helpful.

Nice video very helpfull

stephen jester says:

Just had our check engine light come on this weekend, after getting the
code from our dad, it showed a thermo/coolant problem. Car was taking a
LONG time heating up, so I figured that it was the thermostat. What really
sucks is we just had the car in to the dealer for 2000 bucks of maint..
that included work on the cooling system.. looks like an easy fix for the
thermostat.

fred eshon says:

Hello I have a 2000 impala and the message center is showing. Service
Vehicle Soon and Low Coolant level. I took it too the dealership and they
ran the diagnostics on it and said the intake gaskets is leaking. How cab I
replace this. They are charging me way too much.

Hey bro I have a 2004 Pontiac grand prix gt. And my temperature gauge goes
hi but it does not overheat and then temperature gauge go back to the
middle can it be my thermostat? Thanks and I hope you can help me.

SteveXnycperformance says:

How long ago did you service? suspect could be the Coolant temperature
sensor for the gauge reading. A no heat will be a blockage of coolant
flowing throw the heater core(radiator) or A no fan(blower)speed.Try a
cooling system flush.follow the instruction on the flush fluid bottle plus
this channel related video. Replace the radiator cap with a same one.

ponch37300 says:

@SteveXnycperformance Fully concentrated fluid, no water? That is the very
first time I have heard anyone recomend that!

SteveXnycperformance says:

No, but all connection must be water tight.

Chess man says:

i already did that but the gauge still registering overheat will it be
maybe the electronics?? thank you

the car looks exactly like mine same color and everything

problem again stayed on the whole time, no leakes I can see. Thanks

israel laredo says:

very good advice, i have an impala 2000 and has a leak, after this video I
belive is at that part (plastic)

soonerfreak1973 says:

thank you so much took off everything and replaced those parts heater works
check engine light went off and seems to be working thank you so much you
are the MAN. i really do appreciate it very much thanks.

Milford Civic says:

If the belt is installed incorrectly, the water pump will be turning in the
wrong direction, causing the overheating. Also if the wrong water pump is
installed, that can happen as well

salt6 says:

Great info, help very much. Subscribed

SteveXnycperformance says:

try a cooling system flush,Prestone makes a great cooling system flush
additive solution. read the instruction on the bottle for
procedure(how-to)dispose of anti-freeze coolant at your local service
station.if any remains.

Mike Stern says:

Great video! Thank you so much for taking the time to record this. Just
changed The inlet and water pump on my 05 grand prix. Money saver!

Timothy Bess says:

@ponch37300 – GM uses DexCool for a lot of vehicles, which is a proprietary
coolant liquid; it’s not standard antifreeze/coolant. For lack of a better
word, it comes “pre-mixed” — in other words, it’s just the right mixture
right out of the can.
