Archie Hunt says:

Man, my back hatch was stuck in the open position. Thanks to your video, I was able to at least get the shocks out and close it.

Remember people, the shocks are under pressure. Smartest to pull the bottom portion of the shock loose first.

And if you need your hatch to work, you’ll have to hook back up the harness on the driver side shock. I was eventually able to get my back hatch to lock in place.

The door is extremely heavy without the shock assistance.

Cedric Vaughn says:

The video would have gotten more like if you would have actually shown the work being done. Still helpful thou. I gave a thumbs up. Thanks

Michael Soto says:

How do those retaining clips go on the new ones?

Michael Hennessey says:

Just finished putting mine in. works like a charm. Be careful after you remove the panneling and are getting ready to take the lift bars off. USE SOMETHING TO SUPPORT THE TAILGATE, ONCE YOU REMOVE THE SHAFTS, GRAVITY TAKES OVER! I once had these replaced at the dealership and they only lasted a short while and cost $575. the new ones went in very easy. less than a half hour. The hardest part was removing the paneling, be carefully forceful to get the paneling off. I tried using plastic pry bars but my fingers worked better. Getting the clips off the lift bars just pry straight out. Easy peesy any skill level from novice on up.

Jay Larson says:

Nice job. Dealer quote was $800 plus for the fix. I found it on GM Parts for $150

Travis Brewington says:

Is this what needs to be replaced for me? The latch pops open, but the power lift gate doesn’t work. Up or down

Tom Cunningham says:

I have a question, does this in any way connect to the latch itself? When I push the door open button or try to activate with my key, the latch doesn't do anything. It onlyy engages with the door turned of at the front console, and by pressing the button on the rear handle.

John Darden says:

I just had to replace this on our 2016 Suburban and will add a warning when removing the old one to stand clear and use a prybar when pulling off the ball joint. Apparently the reason it was not closing what the threaded bar that the motor spins up or down inside of it was no longer attached to the end so once I pulled it off the ball joint, the steel spring shot it apart like a bullet. Luckily I was prepared for it in the event it was separated – and it was.
