Is there a certain type of lube that should be added to the gaskets before installing the new parts? Not referring to the penetrating oil that you used to help put the new parts in, but to help ensure a good seal. Thanks for the help!

Thank you sir!!!!!!!!

Trey Weaver says:

I didn’t happen to see if you mentioned a second elbow? I was looking at a forum to a 97 3800 engine and it had an upper elbow on the tensioner. I heard you say lower elbow, but if there’s an upper one, I’d rather just replace both, since I’m there and they’re plastic anyhow.

Dennis Himberger says:

Thanks! exactly what I needed to show my friend what is wrong with her car. I noticed you just replaced the 2 elbows and not the tensioner. I will ask her if her belt has been squeaking at all. best time to replace it all I guess. I am thinking with 90K-100K she has never had it replaced. At least it looks easy to do and not difficult. I think I know what I might be doing Saturday unless she takes it to a shop? to bad my other neighbor is out of town, another hand is usually helpful. Thanks!!

If there’s a check engine light on you may want to pull the code to see what it’s pointing to. Usually a bad IAC, or EGR valve will lead to a surging situation, the high temp issue could be a totally separate problem though. You may want to check the anti-freeze coolant level and also the radiator fan to make sure it’s operating correctly. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Have a 1999 olds intrigue, 3800 engine. After driving the car to fully warmed up then stopping for a few minuets. when restarted car surges and stalls and starts right up again and temp. gauge goes up to 3 quarters. When driven a block or so temp gauge goes back to normal. Ever see this ?

ronald gilley says:

Hey thanks again, after asking the question I went down and checked the radiator and it was bone dry, must have pushed it all out through the cracked elbow!Running like a champ again, thanks alot!

You may want to check the water pump, radiator, and also the thermostat to see if it needs to be replaced. If the thermostat is bad, they are pretty inexpensive. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

1aauto says:

You may want to check the radiator for leaks. The anti-freeze could be blowing around when the radiator fan is on too. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

1aauto says:

You should be able to see it if you follow the serpentine belt. We currently do not have a diagram to send you that shows its location, it should be fairly easy to see though. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

1aauto says:

if it idling rough, there should be some sort of check engine light. I would start there and trace it back to a bad part.

drodsta13 says:

I just now finished putting in the aluminum elbow’s I noticed that at night when its cooler the car idles rough a little bit when slowing down compared to the daytime, do you have any idea what that could be? Could it be the TCS sensor gone bad? Any help with this I would really appreciate Thanks!

I have replaced these once before with non-dealer parts only to have them go again. I just ordered the aluminum ones from you guys – have you installed these before yourselves? How has your luck been with them?

1aauto says:

If you replaced the old elbows with new ones, you may want to check the area where the leak is occurring to see if there’s something else that might be causing the failure.

mike kuhn says:

hey did the repair took only a few mins. I ‘m still having problems with blowing out the front elbow, second time i replaced it the elbow was only out a little bit, but replaced both. Now for the third time in 1 and half months, just trying to find out what more I can Do to stop this. It happens mostly when i really get in the gas like to get on highway. thank you.
