Ya me either? You can see the ‘gasket’ in your video. You replace it. It is dark brown you put it between the hub and the bearing at time 07:45. The darn thing even falls on the floor when you are taking the old bearing out at 07:05. It hits the floor with a “clank” just before you say: “Wow is that bearing bad”!!!…

madmike1981 says:

Im not really sure what that gasket is for so Im not sure if its important or not. Id guess all that is for is so the two parts dont rustweld themselves togeather but Its just a guess.

MadMike.. GREAT video. Helped a bunch changing the left front wheel bearing in my 2003 Silouhette. QUESTION: Is that tin “gasket” thing important? I put everything back together-test drove and works perfect…then found that darn thing laying on the cement! Should I take it all apart again to put that tin gasket thing back on in between the hub and the bearing? Thx

Thanks, Mike. Subscribed to your channel. If you ever do a job of replacing a strut bearing on a 2005 Pontiac SV6 let me know. This vehicle has one that is going. It looks like a real pain in the ass to get to…gotta be a mouse.

Thansk Mike good nice job

Great demonstration!! I feel like a professional myself after taking your 20 min. class. GREAT

madmike1981 says:

I havent ever had one stick that bad. It sounds like its rust welded I do have an idea for you put the nut on the axle untill its flush with the end of the axle then put a socket on the nut and hit the end of the socket with a hammer it might break it loose. as far as pulling it all out through the knuckel if your willing to replace the axle just cut it in half remove the bearing and half the axle then pull the other half out of the trans and put all your new stuff in.

Dor manski says:

Great video, but have you ever had one that would not come off the axle. I ask because I cant get mine to come off of it. yes all items are off correctly, and I still striped a wheel puller and tried a 5 ton bottle jack wheel puller and still it will not come off the axle. can I pull the axle out through the steering knockel and replace both?

whoodiestyle says:

You could have saved a step by taking the whole caliper with bracket off as one unit.

ponyboymidnight says:

You didn’t torque the axle nut! Hope you are happy when you need to do this repair again. I use silicone paste to lube up my caliper bolts, and an very small bit of lube on the brake pad slides so that they will always work. Really though….use a torque wrench when they recommend it. It will give you more smiles in your miles!

I went to Midas several years ago and the mechanic said I needed everything replaced in the front on both sides, torsion or sway arm? because of a rubber bushing and that they only replace the whole arm and not just the bushing. Of course, many shops will likely try to get you to replace the front brakes and caliper along with a brake fluid flush. The estimate came to around $3,600.00 Although, it was a complete list that included the rack and pinion/axles brakes all the way around etc.

madmike1981 says:

@Paul Hickinson got them on eBay then I got to change them again 4 months later because they went bad make sure you get timken bearing ones from the parts store if you want them to last

paulhickinson says:

Where did you get the bearings for that price everywhere i phone they want 140 each

quincy1947 says:

GREAT GREAT GREAT !!! Canadian Tire wanted 800 and change to do both hubs. Bought hubs for 80.75 total and followed your instructions. Saved over 600.00 Thanks a bunch

dixiealley says:

Dude, I cannot thank you enough for this video…. Guess i owe you about $300 worth of labor cost cause that is what you saved me. Awesome.

kabamm74 says:

Mr. THank you very much…I have 2 Hubs I’m gonna replace, I asked my “FRIEND” down the alley from me to help me and he spoke as if I had to drop down my front end, so I was like, DAMN! He said he would help but never got back to me. YOU sir are a life saver. I have an 03 venture and U should me step by step and I could do this my self. THANK U THANK U Thank u!

going to hell for a vacation haha, great vid

Don Jacobsen says:

Wow – thanks for posting this video. Local tire/brake/alignment store want $600 to do this job. I can buy hubs for $130 each and do this my self.

madmike1981 says:

Thanks Good Idea on the tags I just put them in.

ColoradoDemings says:

Thanks for the helpful video! You took away my worries about changing the bearing on my wife’s 2004 Montana and helped me save $170 in labor cost! I love how the foot comes in at 16:58 to hold the tire in place–just like I do. You might get more views if you add “Venture” and “Silhouette” to the YouTube tags. Thanks also for the tip on anti-seize. It seemed like GM used super-seize to install the hub bolts.

Samuel Sternhagen says:

Same here, thanks!

madmike1981 says:

Thanks im defiantly going to keep making vids as repairs need done

madmike1981 says:

I have no idea I dont even have a torque wrench lol

Cousin07100 says:

Great video, If you do other repairs . please post them ,since its a great help for us all. ( I’ll do the same here )

Thanks.

wolfen1229 says:

What is the torque setting of the 3/4″ nut?

jmcwilliams75 says:

Well, I bought a new starter thinking maybe the solenoid was bad (they don’t sell the solenoid separately). Still didn’t do anything. I checked the relay for the starter. Wiggled the wires on it and ……of course it starts now. Well, at least I have a new starter now. I think the old one was on it’s way out anyway. Thanks for your suggestions. I appreciate it.

madmike1981 says:

It could be the bendix in the starter went bad. I bought a Cadillac a few months ago that had a bad battery and a bad bendix at the same time I had full power to the starter but it wouldn’t do anything. Other then that it could be a faulty ignition switch or neutral safety switch but you said it has power to the starter so im not sure If you know how to jump the starter id try that. If you don’t find someone who does its not hard but its dangerous

jmcwilliams75 says:

I was wondering if you could give me some advice on another issue. I had to replace the battery on this van today. It had been starting weak for a couple of weeks and today it just would do it. Wouldn’t jump start either. Took the battery out and had it tested – bad. Bought recommended replacement and installed it. Hooked everything back up the way it was and cleaned off connections. Now the engine won’t turn over at all. Checked fuses – fine. Checked power to starter – fine. Help?

madmike1981 says:

Im glad it helped you its not to bad of a job

jmcwilliams75 says:

Thank you so much for posting this. I have the EXACT same van (same year even) and I was tasked with changing the wheel bearing assembly. I was worried that it would be too difficult or I would run into some kind of problem. Your video eases my mind as it looks pretty basic. I am planning to do this project tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks!!
