GM Electronic Gear Indicator and Tripometer Odometer Cluster

GM Electronic Gear Indicator and Tripometer Odometer Cluster

Didn’t light up anymore. This video is pretty short on details, I didn’t have much time 🙂 Symptoms: PRND321 and Tripometer/Odometer no longer light. Everyth…

Thanks so much man this really helped. I got all of those things at
radioshack, except I couldn’t find the resistors individually, I had to buy
a pack with a bunch that I’ll never use for $7. Just got it working a
little while ago. Now I can get an oil change!

flatulencer says:

Under show more, the resistors are said to be “150 ohm 1/5 watt resistors
“. In the video, the resistors shown are 150 Ohm 1/2 watt resistors 5%
tolerance from RadioShack # 271-1109 (2711109) pkg. of 5.

Mohnnad Bshara says:

Thanks for the information…

zcomputerwiz says:

@cshousley Yes it is most likely a very similar problem. Open it up and
look for missing resistors. The values and locations will vary, so you will
have to find a how-to-guide for your model.

FiveStar Rome says:

thanks man you helped me save money…. thank you

dieselissy says:

thanks for the help!!!! saved lots of time and money!!!!!! you are the man
and didn’t get ripped off the by local electrician who told me to go to a
junkyard for another display!!!!! THANKS FROM MY DAD AND ME!!!! WORKED LIKE
A CHARM ON HIS 1999 BUICK CENTURY……….

irina iacovciuc says:

hi! thanks a lot man, my mechanic he will fix my problem with 160$, i got
lucky and i saw your video, i spent 20$ totally : )) i did the same thing
like you said in the video, and it works!! thanks a lot!

Millenniumforce says:

My cluster used to be bright then went dim. I used to tap on the plastic
cover and it would brighten. I did that for a couple of months but now
tapping doesn’t work. It is alway dim very hard to read but it is not
completly out. Is it still the same situation needing to replace the
resistors?? Thanks

TheDemongo says:

Thanks mate this video was supremely helpful, my odometer/shift position
died one day in my 99 century custom and I’m glad it’s a reasonably
straight forward fix.

CzarKrali says:

Now I have a project for this weekend… thanks for saving me alot of
money.

Ramesh Eerpina says:

Your so patient and you described everything in so much detail. I want to
try on my Buick 2003 regal. But before taking the dash out I would like to
know how to remove those resistors. Thanks in advance.

zcomputerwiz says:

@mrakuzic Sorry I didn’t respond sooner, did you get an answer elsewhere?

Luke Noriega says:

Worked for me

celentner says:

Great video–very helpful. I do not do to much on cars and never tried
anything like this. After 2 hours I had it all back together and working!
Not bad for a 57 yo guy who has only changed oil & filters before.

Walter Bazella says:

Very cool. Thanks. I just bought one and I love it. But it has that
problem. Of course it will wait till spring.

2KCentury says:

Perfect! Just the help I needed. Hit Radio Shack 11 am, finished by 2pm!!
Total bill at R.S. was $27. My solder skills are not as good as yours, but
to my surprise it worked just fine. I found it was a little easier to put
the dash panel back in with the 4 vents removed. I see now with the way
these were built that going to the Junkyard would have been a complete crap
shoot, I was completely missing two of the 4 resistors, but now have 4
fresh ones in there. Thanks for Posting!!

R Butler says:

Can you tell me anything about an 04.5 Silverado, the odometer started
reading ERROR instead of the mileage. Everything else works fine.

libraryfreak18 says:

thank you so much lights were out for over a year the mechanic said it
would cost at least $300. my husband fixed it for $12 and about half hour
of his time

toggles190 says:

Thank you so much for the video! My Tach stopped working in my ’98 Regal so
I took at all apart like you showed, and there were 8 resistors with black
ends that just fell right off the board when touched. I replaced all of
them and I’m back in business! I can’t imagine how people got by without
the internet! Thanks!

Moe R says:

I just wanted to say thank you because I hated my display being out. I am a
36 year old female so if I can do this any body can….lol…. It only took
me a few minutes to get the dash off and take the cluster out and about 15
minutes to do the soldering because it was my first time soldering and I
didn’t want to mess up anything. Again, THANK YOU!

esetrouble68 says:

Dang you saved my ass a lot of money i greatly appreciate you for doing
this video thanks mang two thumbs up…..

CS Housley says:

Is this likely the problem for my ’03 Buick Century? My transmission
indicator/odomotor will not light up. Thanks.

Aaron Lester says:

Excellent video. I repaired my dads 99 Century today based on this repair.
I already had the required resistors in my tool box so I didin’t even have
to make a trip to Radio Shack! Thanks for posting.

Julien Doucet says:

I have a silverado 2002 which the odometer and shift indicator do not work
no more. Do you think it would be the same problem?

blackericdenice says:

Just replace stepper motor in 04 Trailblazer RPM stop working. It was easy
after i learned how to salter. Just buy more S Motors than you need 3 of
the 6 from Amazon was bad.

Tom Sommerville says:

It doesn’t hurt to have a higher wattage rating, that just means the
resistor will handle more power before releasing the magic smoke 🙂 Get 150
ohm resistors with low tolerance. The tolerance shows how close to 150 ohms
the actual resistor value is guaranteed to be. A 150 ohm 5% tolerant
resistor will have a value between 142 ohms and 158 ohms (+/- 7.5 ohms)

vinidad4 says:

Very usefull video thank you!

zcomputerwiz says:

@dzude26 Yes, it might be a very similar problem. The resistors may be
different values and locations though!

MyIdontknowwhattoput says:

Awesome video, I was having the same issue with my silverado, took the
chance and it worked.. Again thank you for the great video.

kbwildman1 says:

Carried out the repair this afternoon based on your instructions. Worked
