Hey Rich, any way you can tell me what size of o ring i would need where the thermal bypass pipe hits the left side of the engine over by the water pump?
Thanks buddy. I replaced the 2 throttle body hoses, and loosened the pipe for access and created a leak. Off to get a new o ring, on Sunday?????? Darn.
I couldn’t disconect the other end which is connected with quick connect clip.
So my question is do I need some special tool or just press and pull out?
I always appreciate these videos–especially when I had my Saturn! I’ve got a 3.1 in a ’96 Grand Prix that’s leaking from the back of the block. I can’t tell where it’s coming from, but it pools right up on the frame of the car. I’ve recently ground the heads, got new upper and lower intake manifolds, new head gasket, and new water pump. Any idea?
Thanks. I get ’em hooked back up correctly. I have that swish swashing water sound coming from behind the radio area. I flushed and bled the system and still get that sound during a cold start and at idle sometimes when it’s at normal temp.
Im getting a coolant leak from passenger side only if i let the 3.4 impala idle and it starts to overheat bubble and crackle but if i drive it the temp goes down and car doesn’t overheat or leak can any help me?
You bet.
Important Update: Jan 1 2013 there will be a new richpin channel for all future videos.Richpin06a channel will be solely for all the Saturn lovers out there.Should be a lot of fun so stay tuned.
Man you are a lifesaver great topic mine is leaking above o ring by water pump trying to find part is hard through auto parts store but i will get it now thanks again
Yup – irritates the Hell out of me. *WHEN* it runs good, it’s a damn nice car, looks and performance. But sadly, that’s not often. If it’s not one thing, it’s another. Although, I guess that can be said for almost every car.
@richpin I have a 05 impala 3.4 and you just help me alot with my problem my the o-ring on the bypass heater pipe on top of the water is leaking could I use gasket seal or what
Off the top of my head that i would not know.

I don’t know how it called but my car is 2001 Chevy Venture LS.
Is it the spring hose clamp you are having trouble with.

I failed to mention that I also got a new head gasket.

It is easy to tell which one is the inlet by starting a cold engine and the hose at the core which heats up first is the inlet.
Nice video Rich. Will you please tell me which is the inlet and which is the outlet pipes on the heater core ? Thanks !!!!
Thanks for the video. Very informative.
I broke the o ring on mine taking it out lol so i sonofabitched from a headlight bulb. I forgot they were sealed with a rubber o ring into the lenses
Check your water pump it is right in that area.

Sorry to hear that.
I have a 2004 Impala and it has been nothing but a fucking piece of moose shit ever since the warranty ran out.
@richpin ok thanks
I do not think that would work.It would be best if you remove the old o-ring and find a replacement.

Wow that was like a year ago i like to say somewhere in the 50.- 60. range
If you dont mind me asking how much did you pay for it?
Had to go to the dealer for that one.
Hey I need the same thermal bypass pipe for a 97 chevy lumine 3.1 where did you get yours at?
There is a tool they make to disconnect them. I have one on order. It’s always nice to have a new tool added to the garage.
