The snap ring is on backwards; square side is towards stress side. One side is rounded, and one side is sharp, sharp side out will hold better and under enough side loading round side will pop off. Easier to remove when it is on correctly.

Use actual snap ring pliers, not those crappy piece together units.
Ive done that before. Replacing the AC clutch on the car. It was a pain in the ass. I did it on a 09 Honda CRV
