I must say this is a great help in changing the motors out. I followed this guide and got them all replaced and working again. I will say two things: First, the two tucked in tabs were super tricky, I put the back cover back on and used it as leverage to get them on. Secondly, don’t forget to check before you take out the console that all the bulbs work (most repair kits come with bulbs). I forgot to check this and now I have to take it all apart again to change the bulbs…
I put a new motor on the speedometer and now all it does is jump up and down about the equivalent of 1 mph. Any ideas on what I did wrong? Thanks.
Great Instructional video! was able to repair my Speedometer with no problem thanks to you! Thank You for Sharing!
Be careful not to hit any little ICs… I made that mistake… once I fixed my error worked good!
I have a 2007 Monte Carlo, the gas gauge says i have a 1/4 tank left but it is really a empty tank and i ran out of gas, does the gauge need to be reset or is it my float in the tank?
Followed your directions for the stepper motors worked great thanks a million saved me about 400 bucks that whats dealership wanted to fix the gauges
I have a 96 GMC Safari the Speedometer does not work on. However it is not totally lifeless. It pins all the way around clockwise when the engine is started. What’s up with that??
By the way my motors don’t come sodderd they snap to the right n come loose plus prioring the gauge,…off. I’m guessing turning the gauges back n fourth might work, its a Chevy s10
Hey Scott, my speedometer was working fine I accidentally moved it as putting the plastic cover back in the needle jumped over the little pins that hold gauge in place wanna say it did a 360 right turn,I noticed the needle was flimsy after that any ideas thnx
There are two clips on the bottom for the front plastic that are tucked in and I.can’t get the front plastic off..
Follow the link in the video description for everything you need.
Where do I purchase the motors?
They ares soldered. Check out my other videos on how to replace the bulbs.
are the bulbs in the cluster soldered on or can the be replaced?
Scott. Great video. I have a question for you. I changed out the gauge motors and they work fine but I also wanted to change out the LED’s. I bought the 5mm blue LED’s. I soldered them in place and now none of the LED’s are working. I can make them flicker when I plug/unplug the harness connector, but they won’t stay on. Any suggestions.
Love the video, my 04 slvrdo gauges are sticking and unsticking randomly, was going to look into buy a new gauge cluster system. but now i will look into geting new motors. Thank You
All of the ones for the Gm vehicles listed are the same for each gauge. Don’t know about other vehicles. I would think they would be the same as well.
Are Stepper Motors Universal? Can they be swapped amongst each guage, or are they specific to the guage?.
i fixed my 2004 tahoe thanks !!!!!!!!!
Probably have a loose conenction in the plug. Tap the top of the dashboard above the panel a bit.
Thanks for the great tutorial! I’ll be repairing the tachometer on my Montana next weekend.
Canadas gm trucks speedomoniter is up to 200 kph if it is a pickup
Very good video, I replaced the motors in my 2005 Sunfire and things worked well. One problem here, how the hell do you calibrate the needles? like an idiot I put them in at zero vs 12:00 position. I did the wind trick like you showed, but the temp gauge is hosed up. Is it safe to assume I can keep doing the spin trick to get that back in the right position?
