14 Bolt Axle Regear And Locker Install – JK 1 Ton Swap Video Series

14 Bolt Axle Regear And Locker Install – JK 1 Ton Swap Video Series

In this video i show you step by step how to regear your 99-06 14 Bolt Rear Axle. This axle is also referred to as a GM 10.5
I am installing a set of 5.38 Yukon Gear and axle gears, thick cut. Im using the Grizzly locker, which is a auto locker that reuses the factory carrier. In order to reuse the factory carrier with an auto locker, you have to have an open carrier (limited slip carriers will not work).
Installing the new bearings and ring gear is pretty straight forward, however make sure you do it correctly!
After watching this video, if you think this is a job you want to tackle, i highly recommend reading the link at the bottom of this video description. This is not a hard job, but it needs to be done right, please take your time and make sure everything you do is within spec.
Like always, i am open for questions so feel free to leave them in the comments section. Do not private message me with questions on FB or Instagram, i would like to answer all questions here so they are public and can help others who might have a similar question.

Part List: This is a recommended list, feel free to change it up as needed. Links are directly to amazon so you can either purchase from them or just use the part numbers to order from a vendor of your choice. I highly reccomend Amazon, Barnes4wd, or Offroad Elements.

Additional info is in the video description! Feel free to ask questions below and I will answer them! Sorry it’s a long video, but I wanted this to be step by step. This isn’t supposed to be a fun or entertaining video, it was made to educate people doing this swap and hopefully help others that plan on doing this at home.

Steven Hawn says:

How big is your motor

xjmachine says:

Are those backlash adjusting sleeves exclusive to the 14 bolts? Seems way easier than pulling out the carrier every time you wanna add or reduce backlash

Gino Cimarolli says:

Who sells spider gears an posi parts for 10.5 AAM . Wanted Yukon grizzly locker , but do not think it fit Eaton GM Posi center section, appreciate an info on companies sell a kit

Mike Lauer says:

Stop distorting your pinion Carrier in a vise. I wanted to throw up all half dozen times or so…

BoonDOCKsaint says:

Thanks for the effort of this video! Just re-geared my 88 blazer with the 14 bolt rear to a 4.56 to match the d60 front. Your video was my main info source and made for a great reference!

UcantBeSerious03 says:

good stuff – thanks for the info

wvjeepguy81 says:

Yukon install kit and USA standard use the exact same parts, except Yukon might include an extra crush sleeve where applicable.

skywalkerMC says:

Great video, I wish my spider gears came out as easy as yours did, I had to use a brass punch just to get the carrier apart. I wish there was a video out there like this for a Dana 44, hint, hint.

Pmd says:

Fact. There was never a 1 ton 4×4 made in 1973 to 87. Squarebody. All were 3/4 ton. Just letting everyone know.
T h e people that will call me a liar are endless.

The Ure says:

Don't forget to recheck backlash after you change pinion depth.
Great video.

Mickey Thompson says:

do your pinion depth first..its the number on top of the pinion from the face of the case to the top of the pinion..there is a number on there thats what it means

Rodster 13 says:

I have a 14 bolt in my 2500 chevy and it's clunking when turning at low speeds. Still trying to figure it out but I've never torn apart a rear end and I don't have a press or bearing puller so it should be fun but I'm kinda leaning towards the spider gears being bad everything else looks good. Great video I learned a lot from it!

Julian Chavez says:

Damn. I wish I used the crush eliminater. Super tough to crush that pos. I imagine best reason to eliminate it is to avoid having to crush that pos. I was doing the jack handle cheater bar thing and had to weld a stop bar onto yoke wrench after striping it all wallered out. I put the grizzly with 4.88.

ropac1256 says:

Been looking for a video just like this for a long time, thanks so much for your time and effort!! Great work!!

Joey Quan says:

Setting up to do this right now. Just finished cleaning my 14 bolt. Thanks for the super detailed videos!

Jeremiah Schaefer says:

Start a few bolts by hand before picking up the mallot
