Will A Transmission Flush Fix This Shuddering Ford F150??

Will A Transmission Flush Fix This Shuddering Ford F150??

We hear it all the time… Flushing the transmission fluid is a waste of money. Or they say it will just make it worse. That hasn’t been our experience, but we decided to test it with this F150. It came in with a shuttering issue, and we are going to show the issue and then do a before and after. Let’s see what happens! Enjoy!

Some of our viewers said our video was too bright and suggested changing some settings. We recently took it off of HD. Can you leave some feedback below on if you see a difference or not? We want to make it the best quality possible for those watching on both phones and the TV. Thanks for all the support and feedback!

@kenkeyes8148 says:

How many miles on the truck? Was the trans ever serviced before? Was it scanned for codes? What was the quality of the old fluid? What was the level?
Technically a transmission flush is with a machine hooked to the cooling lines. You performed a trans "service", without pulling the pan. (Pan (and magnet) inspection can provide useful clues to overall health.) No offense but you demonstrated why a general repair shop should not be trusted to diagnose and repair a transmission problem.

@chucklemberg4968 says:

This process seems to be different than some of the pressurized transmission flushes that I have seen advertised/recommended. I would never want to do one that is pressurized. Am I wrong in my thinking?

@AnitimOon says:

2011 Altima 202,000 miles on the CVT 1st CVT fluid change (double drain and fill) at 50,000 and then every 30,000, 2016 Altima 165,000 ,2021 Altima 138,000 and 2015 Xb 165,000 same process, no issues on any of them and synthetic oil changes with better oil filters at lower than factory time intervales… fluids are the lifeblood !!!!

@DavidRodriguez-qb6dd says:

can you do the same thing to the new Dodge ram automatic transmissions with the 8-speed

@ockgator says:

Lubegard black bottle, cured many a crown vic trans shudder

@jimb4090 says:

Never ever flush unless you do it every other oil change. Your clutch plates have become used to a certain amount of friction provided by slightly "dirty" fluid. Give them all new fluid and that friction goes away.

My Question Is What Do You do About Different Manufactures Fluids, In Your Machine ? I'm a really small shop. I Would Love A Flush Machine But I don't Know if it's worth It for Me. I would Still Drop The Pan Check For Metal in Pan & Change The Filter. Coolant I Suck out & Drain all I can & Vacuum Fill Very Thing. With Recommended Coolant

@jtmartin8445 says:

My 2003 ford with the 4R70W transmission has a plug on the converter. I’m still on my original transmission at 340,000 miles. I’ve had the fluid changed 3 times and I dropped the pan and changed the filter for the first time at 270k

@drob3366 says:

This work with the Ford 10 speeds?

@jeremyalbert2069 says:

the 6r80 ford trans has a known issue with shudder , due to degraded fluid , the service is due around 60k , most people dont do it , it can also be due to debris in the valve body causing the solenoids to stick , also torque converter failure , thats the problem with the gm 8 spds , i would normally drop the pan and change the filter and look for any big metal chunks , the flush may be a temporary fix . and you have to use a good quality full synthetic lv trans fluid only !!!!

@djnone8137 says:

If you have the ability, you drop the trans and open it up. Few hours if you know what your doing. You can inspect all the wear once or twice for the life of your trans. You can drop a trans and subframe in 30 minutes with a lift and an impact with a stand.

You roll dice using one of these machines.

If the vehicle had a 100k and was never serviced we would only drop the pan and clean off or replace filter for liability.

@rabidbeagle says:

I wish your shop was in Central NJ. Nothing but crooked shops here

@diytacoma5758 says:

Out used expeditiont does not shudder it does seem to skip gear 3 or sometimes it has delayed gear 3 shift 160 k miles . Should we do a flush

@markj9544 says:

My 91 Seville had some hard shifts and probably never been changed after I bought it, but after new fluid its shifts nice an smooth. Not sure how new fluid could hurt any vehicle.

@chairrider2462 says:

My only issue with a procedure like this is the filter is not getting changed and could be full of debris from clutch wear over the years. And whatever "stuff" is on the pan bottom can be wiped out and the magnet checked when you do the filter. I prefer to drop the pan, change the filter and refill and then do like you guys are doing. On my last work van I was able to buy a pan that had a drain plug on it. That made the job even easier to do.

@jamescross9783 says:

With all the dirt and foreign particles "flushed" out of the transmission, didn't you just plug the filter/screen?? We have always felt a flush just slows down the inevitable transmission rebuild. I do agree regular service is key.

@robaxelsson530 says:

Flush, and add a friction modifier…

@Qietman says:

LUBEGARD INSTANT SHUDDER FIXX.
There, I fixed it.

@LA_Commander says:

I've seen F150s where the shuddering appeared like a transmission issue but it was actually bad ignition coils. New coils from Motorcraft ended the shudder.

@FreeKanal says:

I love u wash car after repair, that says a lot about You. Respect from Poland !

@ordinaryjoe2247 says:

Sitting there on the rack, you can drain & fill forever and won't get the fluid from the torque converter's lock-up clutch mechanism. We also usually drain & fill the trans multiple times in order to get as much of the fluid as possible, but we also drive it in between, ensuring that drive includes a bit of time with the lock-up clutch engaged.

@lionelhernandez34 says:

All's I know is, previously owned a Bronco and was giving me similar symptoms naturally I expected the worse. Mechanic that serviced the fleet vehicles where I used to work mentioned to try the flush first, milage, condition of the vehicle and as you mentioned being a Ford Transmission they're relatively dependable. He also mentioned costs worth the try flush before dropping thousands on stabbing a new or re-conditioned one. Ran perfectly till I eventually sold it years later

@mnichols2773 says:

If a transmission has a serviceable filter like that truck, it should be changed as part of the service. That’s like changing the engine oil and not the filter.

@hiveproducts5501 says:

Drop pan and clean it. Change filter

@Cr38502 says:

Asking . why not drop the pan and change fluid and filter that way .

@jdesaavedra0432 says:

I would first do a complete fluid change before anything. This truck probably has missed 3 complete fluid changes. I suspect the torque converter clutch is damaged already. How much damage?
