Love your videos!
I was told I "stretched my linkage cable" when I had to forcefully yank the shifter out of park on a hill. My floor shifter now has to go past drive and back up to engage. I have a 2010 Explorer 4.0. I wanted to try this easy fix first but was told this won't fit my vehicle. Do you have any advice or another product recommendation?

Emad Dahiyat says:

Thank you you saved my a$$

Ethan Fortune says:

Great repair vs replacing entire cable. Much appreciated for the video brotha.

Lash LaRue says:

Love your videos!!! ❤️

Doolen Equipment says:

Hey if you take it apart correctly you won't be breaking the bushing and putting some generic repair that retainer clip slides down then you can take it loose without breaking it lol

Deb Fassbinder says:

DOES THIS APPLY TO FORD ESCAPE TRANSMISSION LINKAGE CABLE REPAIR ALSO ?

TL Stanbro says:

What are some symptoms if it’s not fixed correctly

John Trosper says:

it looks like the repair you did was on a 2004 f150 is that correct? someone below commented that they used a different part # 14041 just trying to figure out what part to buy for my 2004 f150

The Galaxy says:

Brian, can't thank you enough! Whenever something comes up on my 2008 King Ranch, I immediately come to this site for answers. And you always have the perfect "fix it right" video. In this case, the bushing on the shift arm disintegrated-and the cable separated from the shift-arm. Did as you suggested and "Dorman kit" to the rescue (didn't even know this kit existed). After watching this video, I figured why not check the bushing on the transmission link as well. So I did-and found the internal busing was completely missing! Turned out the only thing holding the cable was that flimsy locking tab. In about 3 minutes, used the remaining Dorman pieces to repair what could have become a serious "no shift" transmission issue. You're a lifesaver, Brian, just wanted you to know how important your work is… not only for saving us DIYers money, but also saving lives!

Patrick M says:

My 2015 escape se just had that bushing fail yesterday. Someone posted the Ford part number of dg9z7k340a for a replacement bushing. I called the local dealer and of course they want to sell me a cable. I gave them that part number and they have one in stock for 1.53 so in going to try it later today. I lo e your videos man. Saves us a ton of cash.

Matthew Kyle says:

Mine's messed up on the other side where it hooks in to the accelerator throttle body lever up on top of the engine snaps onto that piece that's the one that's broke online I was hoping you would show how to do that one

Larry Archie says:

What if that doesn’t change the problem… this was a great video and it help me assemble the bushing but my truck still isn’t going in gear

Vladimir Macko says:

how do you adjust that linkage, or the whole thing? I have this system , this clip on tranny, on my F150 but I can't start it up in Park, only in neutral

JR W says:

Will this kit work on a 2007 Ford explorer 2wd 4.0L with a 5R55S transmission?

scout2nut says:

so….. from a shops point of view, don't go popping off the linkage when it has nothing to really do with the repair at hand, put the truck in neutral before lifting it.
but for a customer, its nice to know a cheaper option is out there for a worn/failed bushing, good info

Marcson GAUDIN says:

Thanks a lot buddy. I was stranded at Walmart just for piece.

Norman C says:

Today in my 2013 F150 coming out of park and into reverse was fine but going down to drive was hard on the shifter. I put it in park and then in drive a few times and heard something break in the shifter. Took the shifter off and found a broken piece of plastic inside. Getting a new one tomorrow but hope it's not the shifter on the transmission as well. Is it not a bad idea to go ahead and change that while I'm at it?

elmrtijuana says:

How do you adjust this linkage i put one on today same brand bushings and they fit great but now my transmission doen not go in reverse it grinds but does not engage does it have to do with the cable adjustment ?

Steve Sanders says:

Hey man I have a 04 f150 and I have a scrapping noise on and off and it goes away when I put it in 4 wheel!!!!

Yessi Gonzalez says:

Hey what's your opinion on cold air intakes ? Thinking about installing one on my 04 f150

The light still shines says:

Plastic parts they designed to break down its supposed to be built ford tough not built ford flimsy

Old Guy says:

The help! line of Dorman are only items I would buy from them. Their replacement parts, like rebuilt/remanufactured parts from Cardone, well….. that's another story….

Knucklehead Garage says:

The CLEAR one works good for the inside Shifter.

Steven Grappy says:

Thank you Brian, that's good to know that kit is now available. Where are you located, if somewhat close I would like to have you do some work on my ford. Thank you.

Christopher Treglown says:

I was wanting to ask your thoughts on the new Ford Maverick and the Hybrid power train in it
