Jeff Armer says:

You could have bought a new regulator on at rock auto parts for $30

Joyce Boncal says:

Search on YouTube “Freelander front left window regulator reparation” to get on idea of the basics. Basically the cables work in the opposite direction… when one tightens the other loosens and vice versa. Perhaps you can find a photo of a new one on the internet to see how the cables are attached and work. They are not easy to rewind. If I had to do it again I would buy a used one or aftermarket one.

Yossi Goldstein says:

Hi You mentioned in the video there is another one that shows how to put the cables – can you add a link I can’t find it, and don’t know how to set the cables, thanks.

Maxxmentum says:

This was helpful, lady you rock 🙂 Thx

Very good vid. Perrys motors is going to charge me £430 for parts and fitting. This vid shows very clearly what can be done but it is a bit too much for me so I’ll probably go ahead and pay for the professionals. Thanks for posting this.

WWJDCARS says:

THANKS FOR INFO, JUST BOUGHT BOTH REGULATORS FOR THE REAR DOORS FOR 75 FROM AMAUTOPARTS ON EBAY, THANKS AGAIN

Sirscoresalotmore says:

i can get the whole assembly for 70 bucks so im prolly just gonna bite the bullet on this one start with new shit and the new one has a lifetime warranty a dorman product

momatomic says:

Props from another ‘girl’ who enjoys fixing cars herself and saving big bucks. Very good video. My first ‘all by myself job’ was putting a new fuel pump on my 1980 Subaru Brat. It was a universal pump and took some muscling to get it into position, but when I fired it up and heard that tic tic tic like a heartbeat, it was sheer joy! Oh, and details are so appreciated, because they are what will stump ya without them…like that button release! Good Job!

Joyce Boncal says:

Glad I could be of assistance. I like making instructional videos.

schmichael811 says:

Thank you!!! From all the professional mechanics that I watched I did not found how to release the window until I watched your video and I found out about that little plastic part that is holding the window. I was always looking for another type of holding device. Once again I learned from a women how to do a men’s job, I’m happy for you.

Zackbrafford01 says:

Hahaha

Eddie Lerma says:

U cans find the regulator on eBay for very cheap! I bought a pair of back ones for 70$ the pair with motors included

Chad Briese says:

Great video.Very helpful. Great job. I thought it was great that you did all this research for this project. Thank you

efrazier007 says:

Thank you for the video. It help me out a lot. However my fight was removing the pins. Just to add to your video for other viewers. To remove the pin you have to tap the inner pin with a little screw driver and hammer.Tap softly until the pins starts to move. Then remove the outer pin. LUBRICATE FIRST wd-40 or screw penetrate.

Matt Van Andel says:

As of today (January 2013), Ford will charge $580 for this very service. It’s highway robbery.

Kevin Zolitor says:

Thank you!! I found a VDO regulator for about $50 including the motor. In the door, once I got the layer of dark gray foam off it wasn’t too hard. The ‘button’ on my window was a sleeve with little rod that fit inside it. I had to poke harder than I thought was needed to get the center rod out, but once I did the sleeve came out easily.

Shingosean says:

Not necessarily, with my car, it was doing the same thing and we figured out that it was that the cables inside the motor had slipped out and were completely frayed

flames5222 says:

Im sorry to say, you waisted you money… There is a little screw at the bottom of the door after you take off you pannel that you should had to turn clock wise that adjusts how high your window was. all your window has done is fallen off the track. All you did was buy a new one and just put your window back on the track. Sorry to update all those who spent a shit load of money/14.97, and saving you 30 mins of your time.

LittleMopeHead says:

I have a manual window, so the crank is the only thing holding the door panel in. How do I remove that?

ismellrice says:

you ma’am are a badass!

Joyce Boncal says:

Glad the video helped. The best part . . . you probably saved $250.

ausnbri says:

Your video was so helpful! My son and I were able to fix his window today. Very glad you suggested buying the whole regulator. I found one for $46 on ebay. Thank you for posting this video.

Alan Cant says:

Thank you so very much for the video. It saved me £s….I agree that to try and renew the plastic parts is very awkward. I did however find on ebay that there were some sites that sold the kit (slightly dearer) but on purchase of the goods one gets a link to a site that shows exactly how to complete this operation. Once again many thanks.

Joyce Boncal says:

Glad I could help- just give me a thumbs up on the video. That button had me stumped for quite a while too.

Dustin Kerins says:

Thank you so much for posting this! i could not for the life of me figure out that release button until i saw this video. very helpful.

Bluterus says:

Thanks Nana!

whtabtbob says:

Mine didnt make any noise so I ordered just the motor assy. I still had to take the whole regulator out. There is not a button to release the window on mine. It is a plastic pin and sleeve that you tap out first one and then the other.

sadistkangel says:

Thank you for your input! I meant to reply the comment above to you. I will prolly have to take it to the mechanic. Gonna run me around $280 to fix it. Way more then what my brakes will cost me to get fixed. Its a good car when it runs properly.

sadistkangel says:

Yeah, I am going to have to take it to the Mechanic. I have to take mine to the mechanic. It’s a ford contour 2000. It was fine when we bought it, but the transmission has gone out once already, starter gone out 2 times. Now my power window is out my brakes need fixed and it’s gonna cost more to fix the window then it will the brakes…:(

MultiPrefect says:

I purchased a repair kit, which I intensely regret. Better buy a new (after market) regulator and replace the regulator. It will save you a lot of time.

Joyce Boncal says:

Watch more videos on YouTube to help you diagnose the problem. If you “hear” the window regulator attempting to move the window up, it’s probably the cable. You might have to open the door panel to know for sure. If you decide to order the part and replace it yourself, usually the regulator and cable are all one part. In my case I tried to replace just the cables. I wish I had bought and replaced the whole part.

sadistkangel says:

Okay thank you for posting this video. I have the same issue with my ford contour how can you tell if it’s just the regulator or the cable that is bad? Or am I better off taking it to mechanic?

Joyce Boncal says:

The button might be oxidized or corroded. Spray all around it with WD40. The button should push in and release the window.

vperez5674 says:

I tried for hours to get the white thing off of the window and tried to do what you said and “press the button” but I just could not get it off!

cptsquirt2008 says:

Thanks do much for this video, helped me get my regulator out.
