Question. When you took the metal high pressure line “pipe” fitting off the
old pump and put in on the new pump, was there an o ring that went on it?
If so, how did it go on? Does it go over top of the threads or down in the
hole in the pump? I’m asking because I just did this same job and fluid is
leaking out of this fitting where it threads into the pump
No ,there was not a o ring just adjusted tight, if yours is liking probably
dindt went in correctly, it has to go in easy with your hand and then after
a few turns used a tool to tigh it, if it keeps leaking then probably you
have a small crack in the presure line.
Yes, You have to move the steering wheel from one side to another slow
(left to right) and the noise should start dissipating, if not then
probably you still have a lick in one of the hoses, check the little top
hose, the one that goes from the reservoir to the steering pump, put your
hands and if its wet then that’s your problem. Let me know if you resolve
your problem ,if not I will posted another video for this question. Good
luck
I’m glad I help with Your problem. make sure that there is no leak in the
hose before any thing else, sometimes a small hole will make air in the
line and cause the noise too…….if your missing liquid then the chances
are that it may have a leak. because if You replace the pump and don’t fix
the leak that pump eventually could became bad again. Good Luck and hope
you get it done.
In my case I didnt change any hose but I notice that the top hose right at
the end close to the engine had a leak so I took it out and cut that little
piece and put it back and push it all the way in and put a clamp to hold
it, because when I look in autozone for the replacement they didnt have a
exact match but the name is Power Steering Line Hose and its the one that
goes from the reservory to the pump its about +/- 10″, because there is
another one longer Power Steering Pressure Line Hose.
Do you happen to know what the name of that hose is? I’d like to replace
that first (though I don’t think thats where my leak is coming from) before
I start taking things apart.
Thanks for posting this video. My buddy has a 2003 Escape that has the
power steering pump screaming like in the beginning of this video. Now I
have an idea how to fix this for him.
hi thanks for the video, but i have a question. well i replaced it too but
i still have the noise, do you know how to purge it?? how long did it take
for yours to go away the noise?? a friend of mine said it coul be the rock
and pinion ’cause its letting air in
this is a very easy job to do this is an informative video but if you are
using a torque wrench to do the job that makes is alot harder. this guy is
clearly a back yard mechanic. the right tool for the job makes a huge
difference.
Man you are a life saver. I’ve got an 03 that I need to do this on soon and
have been looking for something exactly like this. All the shops around
town have quoted me 500-600 bucks to replace it! You’ve got a few tools I
don’t have that I’ll be going out and getting then replacing this myself.
That small O ring you install at the end of the video…I think you just
solved my “WHY IS THIS LEAKING AND NOT TIGHTENING” problem!!! Thank
you!!!!!!
Oh my god that “like my Grandpa, not much” was hilarious. Thanks for the
video!
I know this sounds simple but I’m looking for a vid of someone showing a
radiator replacement on a 2002 v-6 model.
Were exaclty do you place the jack under the car

I think I’ll pay a mechanic to do this.
good job! thanks for showing.
Looked like a lot of work good job
Good ,I’m glad I could help, and If you find an easy and better way you can
post a link of your video here to help any person in need.

Thats not a $500-$600. You probally took it to the Ford dealership. If you
take it to Joses or Carlitos mechanic you will pay $200.
