My dad wants to say thank you for helping him with this video. Amazing
video thank you and good job.

54egg says:

Thanks for video!!!! Success on my 2005 Explorer. Not skilled enough to
remove actuator bolts by feel I relied on mirror which required some effort
to train my brain (not used to working in mirror). I found it handy to pull
the panel under the steering wheel which allowed me to spot the bolt
furthest from bottom (upper left while looking toward the passenger door) –
this saved me looking in mirror. I wrapped some electrical tape around
holes and threaded bolts through for reassembly. Remember bolts form “L”
pattern. I put one of the bolts in the wrong position which cost me some
time. My gear wrench might be low-quality (fair amount of friction to
overcome ratchet which added pain…)

Stephan Paris says:

How can you tell that your actuator motor/gear failed and not the blend
door itself? My ’99 F-150 isn’t in this year range but definitely has
something that failed I’ll go over a bump and the A/C goes from cold to
hot in an instant. Also, the heat is all or nothing there is no medium
heat lol.

wellington tejada says:

Hey you just saved me $450 that the dealer wanted to fix my 09 f150
actuator. After watching the video, I went to the dealer and bought the
part, replaced it in less than 2 hours wand I’m not
mechanically-inclined!…Next project is trying to fix a tranny-leak the
dealer quoted me $600 bucks for….again, thanks and keep posting these
sort of videos Im sure it helps a lot of us some cash!

twinkyb4 says:

I’m having the exact same problem with my 02 explorer XLS and I knew it.
But your video showed me the easy way to change it and I can’t thank you
enough. $36 for the part and a couple of hours in the sun tomorrow and I’ll
be nice and toasty when the temp plummets this week.

MAY03LT says:

Good stuff boss. This procedure worked perfectly in an 02. I popped open
the actuator and the small gear thingy was busted exactly like yours.

So Nev says:

Our 2002 Explorer’s front heat has stopped working. The coolant level is
good and heater hoses are hot at the firewall. We are not hearing the
clicking, but are very familiar with the sound, as it has happened on our
rear heater 3 or 4 times. Could it still be the actuator? Any other ideas?

Your video shows more details than any others I watched–even than those
with multiple parts. Thanks.

Amy Crow says:

Hubby is fixing blend door now…another problem is it wont switch from
blowing out the front and sides to defrost or feet. Its just stuck blowing
out the front vents. What could this be?

Jake Thayne says:

Really great video. Helped me a lot in my 2007 Explorer. There are some
minor differences in so,e of the newer model years this video relates to.
In the trim and the part it’s self are a little different, but this still
helped a ton. Thanks so much for posting!

Kevin Walsh says:

You really don’t need to rip your center dash apart. All you need to do is
remove the plastic access panel by your gas pedal. Then remove the medal
access panel and the plastic air filter and there ya go it’s right there.

Rhett Kelley says:

I was just quoted over $1300 for this very problem at the dealership on an
’05 Exploder!!! Said the entire dash would have to come out and both the
blend door and actuator would have to be replaced. Thanks for making this
video!!!

semcogroup says:

I’m sorry, actuator on passenger side.

Swapster .com says:

If you have a 2007 Ford Explorer… DO NOT REMOVE THE CENTER CONSOLE. Save
yourself time… you only need to remove the panel (no tool) that is located
near your right foot in the drivers seat and the support bar (10mm socket –
2 bolts, 2 nuts). The actuator is totally accessible at that point.

Once you remove the old actuator, plug in the connector and test. Also you
should make sure the shaft is aligned same as your old actuator – and you
do this by comparing the two… if they are not aligned – just connect the
electric, turn on your vehicle and adjust from hot to cold or cold to hot…
depending on what the last setting was.

This entire job could be done in 20 minutes. My first time took about 45. I
hate working on cars.

Door Actuator” from SappyPics.

THANKS

Sue Welch says:

I don’t suppose it would be the same for a 2001?

Chad House says:

Very good instructions, replaced mine in a 2004 model year and the
information was spot on step by step…. saved me hundreds of dollars by
doing it myself! Thanks for sharing.

Rumbling Rider says:

Fantastic video, clear, precise and to the point without a bunch of fluff.
I replaced that part this weekend on a 2005 Explorer by following the
instructions on your video and now the heater works perfectly. It only took
1.5 hours start to finish. Thank you for taking the time to make this
video.

Geigenheimer says:

Great video this helped out a lot on 2004 Explorer!

benjamín cortes says:

Mike Standing says:

bro ive been looking for this video and all i found were idiots who skipped
steps and thought they were filming cloverfield. thank you so much man. you
saved me time and headaches

j84ustin says:

Something odd happened to me when I did this repair. I had this problem,
clicking, no heat, only A/C. I watched the video, bought a new actuator,
and installed it. Drove 8+ hours today. Clicking is gone, and heat works –
but now A/C doesn’t kick on! What did I do that caused it to get stuck on
heat?

John Teal says:

Do you have a video on the 2002 or same F150? Looking all around, your vids
are done the best by the by. Thanks.

SeditionMotorsports says:

mine does this for when i turn the rear air on.. what can i do?

Da Choppah says:

Cut I cut the panel under there to get at the little beast ?

semcogroup says:

Hi! Where is the actuator for the driver side on the ones with automatic
control unit and dual temp?

Thomas Butcher says:

replaced my today removed panel under steering shaft ,you can shine
flashlight in to see top bolt used extension and swivel socket got top bolt
out real easy. thanks for the video.

bryan davis says:

Thank you for this video. It’s -2°F today in Colorado, and I spent the past
three hours in the garage fixing the actuator. Without this video it
would’ve taken me forever. The one thing that I’d like to mention from my
experience is my ’04 Explorer uses 7mm screws on the console. So you need
to have 7, 8 and 10mm sockets or wrenches. Thanks again.

Doug Bergman says:

I would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU.THANK YOU.THANK YOU.THANK YOU. My
father and I were to do this in just a couple hours. This is a very doable
project for “beginners” Video is outstanding for my 04 Explorer. One note
to people trying this: make sure you get the exact same part for
replacement. We got once that was close, but not exact…….it fit, but
did not work…….so I luckily ran up to AutoZone, got the right one…and
we are all set! thanks again

Sons of Eden says:

Amazing video Boss! I have my newborn daughter coming in a few days on Dec
1st…and the wife’s 2003 Mercury Mountaineer just started having the same
problem and we need the heat for my newborn. From what i understand the
explorer and the mountaineer are the same mechachly right? Should i follow
the same process as this video? …and can i get the same actuator from at
the dealer for an explorer and slap it in the 2003 merc? Thanks!

Dave Earp says:

Thanks so much for this video … saved me a lot of money …. also .. you
were right about after market parts … I started with one and it didn’t
work … once I obtained the right Ford part it worked great.

Andrea P says:

We have a 2005 Explorer XLT and we can’t get to the 3rd bolt that is up
behind the connection. My husband is ready to rip out part of the console.
Is anyone having this problem? We are afraid that when we do remove the
part, that we won’t be able to screw the bolt back in. Please help!!!

John Woodward says:

Excellent instructions! After putting this off all summer and looking at
countless how-tos, I tackled it this morning. $75 (including the ratchet
wrenches an essential item for this repair) and 2 hours later, my 03
Explorer has heat again. Thank you thank you thank you.

fernando garcia says:

does any one know the part number so i can go ahead and have it order
please!!

Becky Smith says:

Thanks so much! Saved over $500 and now Dora the (2003) Explorer has heat
again…much to my daughter’s delight. The tip from someone about the
ratcheting wrench was a good one, also. Ford’s design on this is an epic
fail for anyone who has to replace this part.
