Installing An HEI Distributor, Easy Upgrade For Your Ford Small Block!

I was surprised how cheap it was to buy an HEI for this Ford 302. Came with the coil and control module so all you have to do is give it 12V. Here is the one I bought – https://amzn.to/3BvhWce (affiliate) and the wires – https://amzn.to/2YBBLjO (affiliate)

I have a 289 k code with a hei distributor, me and my father are trying to figure out if we need to run a tach wire or is it just a one wire set up.
If we do need a tach wire do we need an external coil?

I feel you might have skipped a few steps, like the whole installation side.

I havd fitted many of these dizzys. They work amazingly well.

12volts WITH A RELAY AND THICK WIRES TO GIVE PROPER VOLTS AND AMPS REQUIRED FOR PEAK EFFICIENCY.

MAKE SURE THE DIZZY HOLE IS VERY CLEAN FOR A GOOD EARTH!!

Hope this helps.

Chevy ignition on a ford defiantly an upgrade

@jaydee8337 says:

Could you swap out the old ford gear to this distributor.don't chevy hei dizzy have that pin for the pump, and ford's the Allen type ? Can you do this on a BB 460 . Just curious.

@floridabronco says:

Great video. The part about it needing to sit flush on the oil pump shaft saved me. Thank you

@BigRobsEntertainment says:

What kind carb do you have and where did you hook the vaccum to

@BasketCaseGarageForFun says:

Should the spark plug gap change?

@rowenatebaldi3213 says:

you didn't show installing the distributer. useless

@theguy9234 says:

It needs 12 volts to the distributor. The hot wire from the original coil is not 12 volts if it has points.

@TatersUnited says:

Do these HEI’s on a Ford interfere with a standard size air cleaner?

@lincolnbump5328 says:

Hey! So, I have a '74 K20. I got it running, but it didn't have much power when I stepped on the gas. I thought I needed to adjust the timing and tweak the carburetor. I started with the HEI distributor, set it to top dead center, dropped the distributor in, and put the spark plug wires in the right order. But it's still not running right, even though I know there's spark and it's getting gas. It cranks but won't fire, and now the carb is spitting gas out the top.

I dont know anything and don't want to learn. Thats the world we live in now, computer says no.

@ndenise3460 says:

What distributor would this engine be from?

@MichaelPashan23 says:

how do you know what number on the plugs? the caps are not numbers

@Ka_Gg says:

I like how you say "It works just fine for me".

That's the difference between people who just repeat what others say and people that do things. You will know if it works or not when you do it.

@Aleksander651 says:

Здравствуйте! Купил такой же только с красной крышкой.Какой зазор у шестерни и перемещение вала вверх- вниз. У меня 5мм. Это много?

@nwmod39 says:

What people say you cannot wire the distributor hot and choke hot together…. it's 12v switched!

@REVNUMANEWBERN says:

2:19 Used a 90 degree fitting and my HEI clears it, on the 351 & 5.0

@joeG9100 says:

Make sure HEI is connected to =12v and not though a ballast resistor or ballast wire.

@milspecmachine says:

Where does the coil spark plug wire go to when converting with this exact same distributor? I bought one of these off of Amazon as well as the two wire plug separately and I’m having a difficult time figuring out where to put the ignition coil wire from the factory ignition coil it used to go to the center of the old distributor cap.Thank you in advance for any help

@fordtorino297 says:

Is this the summit blueprint distributer?
