what a grate video my mother has a 1997 ford escort and now I know how to

my name is joe and i have a 1997 ford escort and a 2003 ford focus I went
on ebay and bought the shop manual for both cars this is known as the
bible it is the same book that the techs at the dealer use they have
since gone to a on line shop manual same as the book but on the
computer now there are just so many makes and models that there is not
enough room for all the manuals to be stored this book is written by the
ford factory and covers the whole entire car bumper to bumper. while I
still use the haynes and chilton this shop manual covers more in
detail just wanted to share this info. i am hard core in to DIY so
for any body like me who is a big DIY the shop manual is a must have

the check engine light came on =/ any ideas? the part that you are holding
is around 220 bucks was wondering if maybe theres somewhere cheaper than
that

My fiance’s 1997 Ford Escort just failed inspection with the same code. I’m
gonna go to Auto Zone and do everything you just said. I’m glad I found
this, cause VIP wanted us to pay $500+ to fix the problem. I’ll post back
if it works.

For not being an auto mechanic this was highly informative and very well
done. Thank you for the video. I’ve had this p1443 code for months. I
replaced the PCV valve, which kicked the engine light off for a while only
to have it come back on again. The purge valve is the second thing on my
list of ‘possibilities’ and seems to be a major one. I’m hoping this is the
case. Anyways, thank you again for the video.

the only problem is my Purge Valve is located in the bottom of the car
under the driver seat and its a lil harder to get to, but hopefully it
shouldn’t be a problem. btw the auto mechanical shop wanted to charge me
$450…
Excellent, i have the same car and couldnt find this damn thing. but I
found the 2 hoses the connect the lines to the canister were both dry
rotted.

Thanks for the info, was out looking at my car trying to find the valve
this morning. Had no luck, wouldn’t have guessed hidden under the air
cleaner. Really appreciate the knowledge. The Ford dealership where I live
wanted $208.48 just for the kit that includes the purge valve ( how they
wanted to sell it) didn’t bother asking how much to install it. $44.95 at
Autozone and your knowledge of where it is located will save me a lot of
money.

$700 to replace a small item? You think thats outrageous, a small shop
downtown was going to charge me near $900 to replace a wheel bearing, (plus
if the spindle was bad.) My venture has a code P0442. Still trying to see
wtf it keeps coming on. I replaced the gas cap and had to fix the filler
neck on the tank due to a large leak.

Way to help the little guy, Darren. Love videos like this. After watching
some other videos related to this, I would also add that you remove the
negative battery cable if you don’t remove the battery for access (in your
case, you removed the whole battery for access, which essentially
accomplishes the same thing, which is preventing a spark). Also, may want
to have a fire extinguisher handy … just in case, since you working
around gas vapors.
