Good luck with the job. Thanks!

Thanks for following up, and glad you got it sorted.

jenniesgarage says:

Yeah! Stick it to the man!

Kenny Barber says:

Thanks, your awesome, glad I didn’t give the big Corporations an extra $10 for a one-time tool! One Sharpie to the bone yard…lol

1NpcKiller says:

Great tip. Going to go try it out right now

gz3s says:

Im sorry for the other day. Turns out the po bent the inside parts to shit. Had a buddy ford technitian help ne and yea he had to pull assembly out and its toast so had to do a new fuel line. Anyways good luck and be careful bent clips= cursing and long exhausting work

stainless0521 says:

but – that’s only for THAT size fuel line. On Ford pickups, there are two different size fuel lines if you are working on the tanks – and your ‘tool’ doesn’t do it… I had to buy the different size plastic ones that Advance sells – for 10$…

I HATE those quick disconnects!

Will be doing this for my Delivery Truck!

Always great to find these make shift (tools), very clearly explained. Thanks for the video, Much appreciated.

jenniesgarage says:

Glad to hear you got it fixed. I really dislike having to leave a job half done because of a goofy little part or tool.

jenniesgarage says:

Good to hear you saved some money!

jenniesgarage says:

Glad to save you a trip to the parts store. A coffee break is always a good thing too!

gz3s says:

mrprosale says:

Thanks Jenniesgarage! Your great tip saved me a trip to town, and I already had the old fuel filter off half to discover I need a “special” tool to remove the other side line coupling on my 98 Windstar…hmm, a cup of coffee and searching Youtube I immediately discovered your video! Loved it and it worked for me. Thanks, keep it up, looking forward to more hot tips from you guys and girls! 🙂

Got stuck starting the fuel filter replacement on a Sunday. So it was nice to finish the job with your make shift tool, instead of waiting to buy one. Thanks

Muchas Gracias. desde Chile, Puerto Varas.

Awesome tutorial, thank you so much!! In spite of all the dried-out Sharpies we have, I used a tool I had purchased a few months back. I had been postponing this maintenance because I didn’t understand the mechanics of the connector. Your video did a wonderful job of showing the clips and their function. I also took your advice, even with the cheap plastic tool, a positive attitude came in handy (perhaps especially because of the cheap plastic tool). Great camera work on your part too!!

jenniesgarage says:

I’m glad it was useful for you. Thanks!

jenniesgarage says:

Thank you!

Bill Arnold says:

oneshoe123 says:

Great video, I could see every step clearly. Good Job

HiphopNila says:

Pretty pricey? With my Audi i’m spending $16-20 on a fuel filter haha.

jenniesgarage says:

Good idea about the cardboard. Jennie is my inspiration. She appears in a video from time to time 🙂

jenniesgarage says:

Thanks! I’m glad that part helped you out.

jenniesgarage says:

Oooh, I’ve been nominated for that before, but never won! Thanks!!

jenniesgarage says:

Thanks, happy to help out!

Thank you so much awesome

MARK ASUZU says:

thanks for the tip. it gave me the courage to replace the fuel filter on my 2002 E150. i bought and used the special tool because it costs only $6 + some change at Advance Auto parts not including the 30% off online coupon code. Plus, i will change filters more than once during the life of my vehicle.

Showing us the inside of the fitting was very helpful. It helps to know what we’re dealing with. Thanks for the video.

docimastic says:

Great tip, and a well done video, thanks. The quick-disconnect I needed to disconnect (quickly LOL) was 5/8″, but inspired by your video, and with a positive attitude (of course! MOST important – thanks for reminding everyone!) I cut a 1″ strip of cardboard (that a serpentine belt belt came in), doubled it over, cut to proper circumference…..one end slipped in, worked the rest in, and VOILA! Thanks again! (And who is Jennie? You don’t sound like a Jennie…. LOL)

jenniesgarage says:

Glad it worked for you, and how lucky that you had the sharpie right there in the door!!

Justhandle88 says:

This worked ABSOLUTELY GREAT!! thank you so much! My checy trucks only took wrenches. Came home with filter cause my explorer was surgong and idling super rough n was dumbfounded. Was too late to get the stupid plastic tool. Saw ur vid, looked down at my sharpie I keep in my door n made it happen! Side note: if doesn’t work immediately keep wiggling n it comes right off! Awesome vid n great easy to understand instructions. Thanks jenniesgarage!!

jenniesgarage says:

Thanks for checking in, glad you liked the video!

PHhorseman says:

Thank you. It was very helpful.

jenniesgarage says:

Happy to hear it worked for you. Thanks!

Jackson Ransom says:

Just used this tool successfully.
Thanks for posting- Great idea

AH6OY says:

Like vipapolice lightly refrences “be prepared to lose a few sharpie covers”, I wouldn’t plan on this being the only time needing the tool. Like the 2008 Mercury owner with an only 5 year old car I’m sure you can figure the pumps fail easily and I’ve gone through 6 pump changes on cars. Anyway good luck and it’s said the newer high pressure pumps need the gas for cooling the pump so running the fuel level past 1/4 for sure shortens the life of the pump besides ethanol’s curses. Good luck.

jenniesgarage says:

Glad to save you a trip to the parts store. Thanks!

bgharvpullatrain says:

I bought the “tool” and got back to the house and got my van all jacked up and its the wrong size.. its a 20 mile drive to the nearest parts place so the sharpie method save me much time and gas money and I used just enough of the cap to still use on the sharpie lmao win win. Great idea and thanks for posting this.
