I just did this a few weeks ago and this is one time I will say that it’s easier to do it while the truck is on the ground on your back. Particularly, that 19mm plug where the dipstick would go. If you get a stubby 3/8 inch socket wrench or a shorter flex head ratchet wrench you can squeeze up there pretty easy and break it loose. I got a fluid hand pump with tubing from harbor freight and pumped all of the fluid out like Arod did, dropped the pan and replaced with the PPE pan so it will be so much easier going forward. Get yourself one of the motive 2-3 gallon pressure pumps to pump fluid back through that 19mm plug like Arod did as it has a little hook attachment and it makes it so much easier as well. PPE actually makes a flat pan or one that has a similar shape to the factory pan. I went with the latter for the Powerstroke (verified with PPE and it worked great) as I didn’t need the flat pan capacity and I liked that it sits about a quarter inch higher. Fluid changes are going to be so much easier from now on. I also went with Amsoil ULV fluid as well and I noticed that trans actually shifts faster and just drives better. Never would have believed it if I didn’t experience it myself.

Those of us with 4Runner’s totally understand the needless frustration.
ARod, that method looks practical. Looks like Ford chose to follow Toyota's Transmission Oil Level method. Toyota's used that method for years, but Toyota's still have a fill hole above (at least the last I heard) in a reasonable place to reach. I'd like to see a video of how Ford wants you to put oil in thru that level port. Do they have a screw in adapter for filling at the level port? I'd rather have a dipstick than any of these methods, but I don't think they'll ever go back to those. Thanks for another good video!

Manufacturers seem to go out of their way to not use common sense anymore…its insane they do not consider maintenence in their designs.
That motorcraft fluid you used to flush the pump is expensive, $20 a quart I believe. You sir are a great mechanic and I would be happy to pay the extra $40 for those two quarts knowing good maintenance was done on my truck.
I did my first drain and fill at 30k miles by dropping the pan. Next oil change I’m thinking about just sucking the fluid out through the fill port without dropping the pan, then refilling. I was able to get about 7-8 quarts out by doing that. What do you think?
I used the valvoline ULV but I’ll probably use Amsoil next time.

Why can’t they put a filler neck in the engine again?
Drill and tap a fill port and fit a sump plug. Plenty of clear space to do it
how about just drill a hole in the pan if you're going to replace it with an aftermarket pan anyway?
I'd bet Ford saved 10 cents a truck by omitting the old fill plug. So it saved money on the line and makes it harder on the techs. Therefore accounting thinks it's a win-win.
