This is how I install roller lifters on a small block ford 302 5.0L roller engine. I begin by using Ford Racing’s performance roller lifters. Once I take them out of the box, I give them an oil bath for about 1 full week. This allows the lifters to fill with oil and all the air to escape from them. Next, I start with a clean work space and begin dropping them in one by one. This is a little messy process but in the end, the results are great. I also clean the dog bones and spider with degreaser and re-oil prior to installation.

Bob McNelis says:

How are you sure that those lifters are filled, if you didn’t pump the air out of them? Not criticizing, just trying to learn.

which way do the oil return holes go ???

FatMatt's Garage says:

I had to pull my heads…

TekMan05 says:

Getting the corner lifters in is a huge PITA. Anyone got any tips on how to do it with the heads ON? I can get the old ones out just not in and they're both the same length.

Ben O'Neil says:

good video. Im currently about to do this exact swap of cams. my only concern was with the spider retainer. My motor is an old 1975 bronco motor doesnt have the 2 holes to for the screws to secure the spider in place. how do i fix this issue? do i have to drill and tap holes?

What (Aftermarket) Aluminum heads can I use on the 1985 H.O. Roller Motor? to get 300 hp from the stock Roller cam / bottom end?

Scooter George says:

What if the block does not have holes for the lifter spider?

Dragonhorse Racing says:

Yeah those lifters are trash. They will not shut up if you are using heavier spring pressure and .550 or more lift. R302h

Hammer Head Garage says:

Did you ever get this engine running? Do you have a running video?

bad66chevelles says:

roller cams are so much better then flat tappet. nomore worries with the zinc issue. next install new hardened exhaust valve seats an itll be upgraded to a more modern engine. roller cams are simplier better an longer lasting an have the advantage of going to a higher lift vs flat tappet

Kings Men says:

Do the oil return holes on the lifters have to be facing any certain way? Like towards the head side or valley side?.

Brandon Sturgill says:

lmr says on there site that the lifters you just stuck in your motor that the heads have to be removed before you can put this part # lifter in your motor I guess they don't totally got there shit together cause I was about to order the other more expensive lifter they carry so glad I watched your video first before spending the Xtra money on something I don't need

Klmtd350 says:

Why did you not complete this build series?

Max theRoofer says:

Great video, but i have a question i cant seem to find the answer to.
What is required to convert from a flat tappet system to hyraulic roller system? According to wikipedia my 1968 Ford 302ci uses flat tappet, and in the future i probably would like to convert over to hydraulic rollers

max penrose says:

vary thorough brovo clap clap

max penrose says:

solid lifters rollers are nice 2 hydrolic lifters are just 2 heavy cant get the high revss

Bud Watson says:

I'm done using that lifter setup. 2,000 miles after my build and a dog bone breaks, lifter ate my cam up. I use linked lifters now

Jonathan Williams says:

what numbers did this motor make?

Brad Pearson says:

what year is your engine block?

Lenny Cordero says:

Hi..Great video…can you please tell me if the position of the hole on the side of the liffters .will be facing inside of the engine or outside ..

thanks a lot

Is the spider directional ? If it is , how do you determine which end goes which way ?

Thanks ,

Joshua Fairchild says:

What size bolts are used in the spider bracket ?

TheGeekwad says:

I only watched about 1 minute before I'm asking this question, but I'm about to do some work on my flat tappet 302, do flat tappet engines have dog bones and a spider?

Stephen Salamone says:

use a old pressure cooker and use a vacuum pump and fill with oil and lifters and pump down to at least 15 inches of vacuum for twenty four hr. ,
