I have liked, subscribed, and added this video to a playlist. I am glad I
found it because many other videos skip over the part about the belt
tensioner. You are a better person than I am because if I had to do this
job I’d be cussing up a storm. My belt tensioner don’t need replaced but I
do need to replace my alternator. I might order it from your site.

awesome learning experiense thanks

Bob Morris says:

I have a question about, how do you know if the belt needs to be
replaced, noise?,I started my 1996 150 this morning and without warning it
was making a knocking sound,it was like a rod knocking but it was coming
from the belt area,I drove it about 10 miles hoping it would stop but no
,it is still there…I haven’t had any problems with this truck since I
bought it…so I’m hoping for a quick fix,I can do myself

This is a very “pumped” video. =p

I’m a carpenter and mechanical work is something I have to do to save
money. After spending more than a few hours trying to route my belt I found
your video and had it on in minutes. I really can”t thank you enough best
of life to you

Snellemin says:

Watched this vid before changing my belt. Completed the belt change in 10
minutes!!!!

very helpful video, thank you………I was wondering if you can add or
tell me when to replace the drive belt tensioner, what am looking or
inspecting for? thank you

Jackie Eastom says:

cool vid.thanks for the info.

jessica nosel says:

This video was great! I am a 19 year old girl and I was able to replace my
serpentine belt on my 01′ f150 without any help from the boys. Thank you
very much for the video!

Adam Corley says:

Can the belt tensioner cause a loud squeal only under load? I can rev it up
in neutral or park and it wont make the noise, only under load driving down
the road. Any help much appreciated! love your videos

1A Auto Parts says:

@mrms111 It’s pretty straight forward. There should be quite a bit of
tension holding that pulley down onto the belt.

DeamonGRAVE says:

Thank you for the instructions. Just the only problem is that my F150 has a
body lift so everything is an extra 3 inches down from normal. I think it
would be better to do it from under the truck.

jerry c says:

Can you replace just the spring ,in the tensioner. Pulley’s look fine,
replaced belt still squeeky. E-150 ford van 1994 with 100,000 miles,
averaged 5000 miles per year.

gus0620 says:

how do you know when they are bad? and is it fairly similar for a 92
plymoth gran voyeger 3.3L?

Russ Man says:

@kisasgirl They also sell a tool specifically made for that, its 2 longer
rods connected with the end for the tensioner. They are usually Red.

1A Auto Parts says:

@Lightworks1111 You may be able to. We currently do not have a repair video
on this particular repair. If it’s low on the motor, you might be able to
get it from underneath the van.

armyrangers6434 says:

I had my belt mess up pretty bad tonight. It ripped into little pieces that
I had to pick out and untangle and there is only about half of the belt
left. I’m not driving it untill I get it replaced but I was wondering if it
is common for that to happen on a vehicle like mine. It’s an 01 F150 with
170,00 plus miles and it has the 5.4 v8. I don’t know when the previous
owner replaced the belt or not when they were supposed to.

D eez says:

My 99 f150 tensioner only had a 5/8 bolt to use to release tension. My
question is… If the tensioner doesn’t spring back then has it gone bad? I
assume it is supposed to spring back but my tensioner is so stiff it stays
where I put it. Even super tight. (backed off a little, runs as usual)

sandkspangler1 says:

You-tube is awesome thanks for the posting this video it was a great help.

1A Auto Parts says:

Usually when a belt needs to be replaced it has a bunch of cracks on the
backside of it.

Lightworks1111 says:

Thanks for the video. I have to replace the tensioner pulley on my 08
Econoline. Can I also do the job without take the Fan and shroud off? Would
I be better off doing the job from underneath?

1A Auto Parts says:

Hi Joshua, It would more than likely be different on your vehicle. if
you’re trying to change it, usually there’s only a bolt that holds them on,
on most applications. Hope this helps you out.

Lightworks1111 says:

@1aauto I did the job yesterday-pretty quickly I might add. Answer is yes
you can definitely do the job leaving fan and shroud untouched. just use
the 1/2″ wratchet from the underneath to take off serpentine. took off the
3 10mm’s from the top. Just make sure to feed the serpentine behind the
tensioner before tightening. One happy Ford owner here.

1A Auto Parts says:

@01mustang05 That belt tensioner should have quite a bit of force on the
belt to keep it from slipping. If there’s no force it sounds as though it
has failed. We sell them on our website. Here’s a link to them on our site.

1A Auto Parts says:

@dfa327 Glad to help!! Please check out our website or youtube channel next
time you need parts or information.

1A Auto Parts says:

@gus0620 Most manufacturers recommend replacing them at 50,000 miles. Not
sure on the Grand Voyager.

Bob Wheeler says:

I watched both the Alternator and Serpentine replacement videos and all I
can say is THANK YOU. I will continue to order parts for my 1998 Ford
Expedition through your company, just based on the fact that your videos
saved me huge labor dollars for what might be considered a simple
replacement.

1A Auto Parts says:

They should be inspected when you do an oil change. once they start to
crack, it’s time to replace them. They will usually last for 30,000-40,000
miles. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

kisasgirl says:

Your video helped out tremendously. Couldn’t get the tensioner loose.
Thanks for showing us how to use an extension bar to create some leverage!

mrms111 says:

i replaced my serpentine belt and tensioner but the tensioner not holding
tension… is there a certain way to put it in??

1A Auto Parts says:

You would need to replace the belt tensioner assembly.
