It would take quite a bit of force to cause anything to happen. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Do the ball joint mess up when doing this work?

1aauto says:

The video you see if going to be the best step by step that we can offer.

Adam Adams says:

Hi Mike,
I have seen this done on a different vehicle where the hub was left hanging on the strut. Is that possible on this model of vehicle?

lakecoastie says:

A++ Thank you very much. You are VERY correct, air tools would have made it easier. I still was able to finish the whole job jack-up to down in @ 55 min with a trans axle seal replacement too.

1aauto says:

I would check the brakes for a caliper hanging up and causing a vibration.

Dietrich Kaiser says:

So my friend and I did this last night without any major problems. I now feel at higher speeds a wobble in the gas pedal and the steering wheel. Nothing to grand but it’s there. Is it alignment perhaps? Also I’m hearing a metal screeching sound. My friend said it’s rust on the new rotors(did brakes a week ago) as once I recognized the CV joint going the car sat about a week in the rain… Is that normal?

ReadySetMoses says:

I have a 05 Ford Focus, do you think the instructions for this would be comparable, any help would be much appreciated!

1aauto says:

I have an 89 Ford Taurus is it simmilar or different to replace?

1aauto says:

It depends on the hourly rate of the garage doing the work.

gabby f says:

give or take how much do you think it would cost to take it some where to have it fix i have a 96 ford taurus

1aauto says:

Once you take the axle out it shouldn’t be to bad.

Jrcuzz says:

Meant to say snap ring

Jrcuzz says:

I’m a pretty big dude.if I’m doing this with a jack on the ground how hard is it to remove the snap from the joint?

tomcatdcn says:

could be control arm bushings

1aauto says:

You may want to if it’s pretty bad and you’re unsure of what to look for.

Kris Burger says:

Would it be a good idea to also have it checked by a mechanic?

1aauto says:

It may be, you also may want to check all of your steering components to see if they are worn and need to be replaced.

Kris Burger says:

I have a problem with my ’02 ford Taurus. Whenever I shift into a new gear that applies or releases pressure, we always hear a big clunk kind of noise. My step father and I have asked around and we have come to the conclusion that it is either the CV joint, or Transmission Mount. Do you agree with that conclusion? We’re supposed to be looking at it this weekend.

Frank Valle says:

Awesome video thanks guys I’m replacing a tranny on a 05 Taurus and I couldn’t get the axle out

1aauto says:

You may want to see if there’s any movement in them by hand. If you crawl under the truck you’ll get movement out of them when you tug on them if they’re bad. We carry new CV axles on our website 1aauto.com

3ldgrande says:

I just got a used ford ’04 F150 @ 80k on it, does that sound normal or not to far out of the realm to need a CV replacement, when i drive straight it doesn’t do anything weird but if i turn left or right from a stop and give it gas it has a weird shake/rumble too it, then when i straighten it out again it goes away… Your professional opinion would be much appreciated 🙂

1aauto says:

Usually a bad CV joint will make a thumping sound when you drive down the road. You could grab the axle (while the car is on the ground) and see if you can move the axle at all. You may also want to check the wheel bearings. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

I have 2000 Denali how do you know when cv shaft is bad? Or drive shaft bcuz in my car there’s clicking noise every time I try to drive it so idk if its drive shaft or cv?

MrOutlawCat says:

I gotta get me a pry bar like his one but bigger. To pry out the transmission side of the shaft.

53prime says:

Not so easy on jack stands ;P This video was a great help, thanks guys!

lee-roy jenkins says:

the axle is still good. i caught it soon after it happened i just need that inner boot.

1aauto says:

The tools needed for the Focus may be different. You may be able to apply some of the basic procedures shown in this video to your Focus.

1aauto says:

If the axle goes bad because of the torn boot, you may need to replace the axle.

lee-roy jenkins says:

the problem im having is that the innermost firm rubber boot ripped and i the replacement boot they sold me is only the thin, plyable outer rubber layer of the boot. HELP

Germain Klassen says:

Is the process on this video similar to a 2005 ford focus?

1aauto says:

The dealer should be able to tell you what rear end came in the truck by running the VIN #
