I was wrong, you can easily slip the starter out of a 4×4 v6. Twist it until the solinoid is to the inside rear sort of, it slides out. Sorry about the last comment. Some solinoids have a spade for the start command and others use a post and 10mm nut.
What year is this truck? my 01 3.0 has 3 threaded ears and you ain't getting it out like that.
