yes, i’m repairing my gearbox right now. It is a 1999 1,8 zetech engine and
mounted on a Ib5 gearbox. 🙂 Great video!

neil shaw says:

could try having a look at “overclockers uk forum” shows a fiesta 1.4? mite
be paragraph 9 down, with sticking gears…….. but only when been driven
for a while…. ok when cold. its a bad design of ford, basically needs at
least a clean and a greasing ( maybe a strip down of the linkage arm
shifter due to it having a Bush inside,, sometimes no bush… that dries up
when hot ) with high melting point grease or similar. this might help.

hoohoohoblin says:

Thanks. I didn’t know if the Zetec transmission used the same linkage.

Flippy2k6 says:

Just started changing my girlfriends gearbox on a 2000 1.8l Focus zetec
(UK), it has the same type of connection, has a rubber collet in that white
plastic hole which push fits onto the pin.

hoohoohoblin says:

No. It would have a different type of connection.

nathan jones says:

you think this would work for an Automatic??

hoohoohoblin says:

Mine is a 2001 focus with the SOHC engine and manual transmission. The Ztec
engine has a different transmission.

jethross12 says:

i thought your description said 2000 focus, sorry ill look a little further.

hoohoohoblin says:

It sounds crazy, but there is no drain plug. You might be able to siphon
the oil out with a tube. They say the oil should last the life of the car.
My oil level was really low when I checked it.

edgar s says:

where is the oil drain plug? in these transmissions. please ford fiesta
2005 Mt

hoohoohoblin says:

You’re welcome! I may have to make a trip and get one of those grommets. I
am glad you found my video. When I made it, I figured only one or two
people would actually have the same problem, but if I could rescue them
from getting ripped by the dealer and having to install a whole new cable,
it would be worth it.

TheMetalmachine467 says:

Go to a bone yard and find one

hoohoohoblin says:

That is strange. I don’t know what it could be. If it happened all the
time, it may be easier to diagnose. Mine shifted rough until I added some
oil to it. You should check the oil level. I have a motorcycle that won’t
shift above second gear one day every other year, but the rest of the time
it works perfectly. Strange stuff.

Hello I’m from the uk I have a 2004 focus ib5 gearbox. My car gets stuck in
5th gear it seams to only happen when I’m on a long journey the problem
happens when I’m changing down from 5th it’s that bad that the lever gets
stuck in 5th and won’t move out I have to stop the car and wait for about
30 seconds then I can put it back in neutral and start off again. I scares
me as it only happens about twice a year and not all the time any advice
would be a great help thanks tony

Ashton Lanier says:

Nice video man

hoohoohoblin says:

I hope you find the problem. I know the collet is known to go bad after
time, so maybe that’s where the problem is.

tony ruff says:

Thanks for the video best regards tony ruff

wingryda says:

that was a very good video, I feel that i have the same problem with my
2005 ford focus. I was driving and it popped out of gear, when i shifted it
felt loose like nothing was holding it. So this weekend I will look at the
transmission gear box and hope it is that and not the transmission. If it
is the collet i will fix it the way you did yours, is your’s still
performing great after the fix it job you did?

hoohoohoblin says:

Great! I am glad I could help.

hoohoohoblin says:

Mine still works great. Looking in there is easy. You don’t need any tools
to pop the plastic cover off and look at it.

hoohoohoblin says:

I thought about that but figured that if I found the part, it would be
pretty worn out, as it seems to be a defective design to begin with. My
homemade fix is still working great.

rphonepatt says:

Awesome. You just saved me a lot of trouble. Followed your info but went to
Lowe’s to get a grommet and lo and behold, they have a 5/16id by 5/8od
rubber bushing that was a perfect fit – no cutting needed. Had the old
collet disintegrate on my way to work this morning, and it took longer to
get a ride back home than to find your video and fix the thing! Thanks
again.

tony ruff says:

I will put some oil in do I fill right up or do I fill 10 from the filler
hole

Welloiledcog says:

Good work! Mine has a problem IB5 like yours, but sensation is stiff and
clunky instead (like a dry box, despite being filled with new correct grade
oil by mechanic). I also oiled up the parts under the gaiter (improved a
bit). So now I know where the cover is under the car, thanks to your vid,
I’ll investigate linkage etc. further…

rphonepatt says:

Lowes part number #139355 – Rubber Grommet 5/8×5/16 (Hillman) On the Lowe’s
site, don’t let the image fool you – the actual grommet has more
squared-off shoulders, though it’s not as dense as the shock bushings you
used. I just needed to get it fixed ASAP so I used it, but I am planning on
making a long-term replacement one out of some block nylon I have. It was
such an easy fix, I still got to work before lunch – thanks again!

hoohoohoblin says:

The manual says to fill up to 5-10 ml of the fill hole, with the car parked
on level ground.

David Sánchez says:

Great video!!! my focus stoped shifting gears last night (saturday August
25) on the road, had to towed in to my house. ..I was worried that fixing
it would be costly and not on time for Monday work… After viewing this
video I went out and easily fixed the problem my self 🙂 two thumbs up! !
