HOW-TO Fix: Ford 9N Exhaust Glowing Red Due To Bad Ignition Timing #fordtractor #ignition

As part of a 12-volt conversion on my 82-year-old Ford 9N tractor, I replaced the distributor with a new one. I did not, however, double-check that the points gap and timing were correct before installing it. I found out real quick, they were not correct and had to remove it and fix it. Here’s a little video on how to do that. #ford9n #fordtractor #ignitiontiming #redexhaust #diy #howto

Trent Of All Trades says:

Someone on TikTok pointed out that the distributor shaft will not, in fact, mount to the engine 180 degrees off because the protuberance at the end of the shaft is offset from the center, so it shouldn't align with the engine if it's off by 180 degrees. I heard Rachel Gingell say it would mount either way in one of her videos but I didn't attempt to do it myself. Better safe than sorry, I guess, so I marked the shaft's orientation.
