How to fix “door ajar” issue on 2012 Ford Edge with a screwdriver

WARNING: This is a destructive procedure. This will permanently fix the issue on a 2012 Ford Edge or similar model of the recurring, known “door ajar” issue… by breaking the switch responsible.
IMPORTANT: After doing this, when you open the door, you will not get a “door ajar” warning. To me, this was worth it. Too many dead batteries and a brand new battery inspired me to break the damn thing. I’ve heard of others getting this assembly replaced only to have the issue return. So I figured why not just break it real good until it cooperates?

If the radio doesn’t go off when you exit the vehicle, just open/close a different door. Otherwise, the radio will simply go off on its own after a couple minutes (nothing significant enough to kill your battery).

Also, I’m not too concerned about the alarm system. The factory alarm and/or aftermarket alarm probably won’t sound if someone opens the door without a key. So be warned.

Suggestion: before getting completely destructive on the car door sensor, try spraying a generous amount of contact cleaner and maybe even some degreaser up in that spot. I tried this and the door sensor started working again.

What models and model years does this common issue happen on? We're looking at buying a '13 Flex. Did Ford eventually correct/update? Thx

Will McRae says:

Everyone watching this video needs to file a formal complaint on http://www.carcomplaints.com. The NHTSA is investigating this issue… the more formal complaints we have on file, the better chance we have of getting Ford to fix their faulty product:  http://www.carcomplaints.com/news/2016/ford-edge-door-ajar-light-investigated.shtml

James Miller says:

Did this with almost a totally dead battery, the warning light which I thought was showing the door closed was masked by something along the lines that there was a charging issue being displayed over it. Well, anyway broke the switch to my amazement @%#$!!!! in the door open position.. duh! Make sure your car is running and don't be a me….LOL.

Rob Klarston says:

I love fords but dad gum. If someone can't figure out their door is "A~J~A~R~" it may be time to leave the drugs alone. IMHO, I believe the more software and the newest tech introduced in our lives; the more stress. The very gimmick that's supposed to be advantageous to us is the very gimmick that's killing us with frustration and stress. I mean, jeeze oh pete – how long have they been putting "Y~O~U~R D~O~O~R I~S A~J~A~R in our vehicles and they still can't get it right. Nice video and appreciate the frustration levels in your demeanor. Take care, cheers.

First Last says:

Will the interior lights illuminate when you open the door, or does that too not work?

Ricky Ruiz says:

Thank You for this vid saved us 150 for the part. I do wish that this was a recall, a real pain in the ass. Plus not to mention the safety issue.

Taiwan Jabar says:

TG, do not break the white piece. Let it hang so the car thinks the door is still closed.

trolloning gaming says:

Once I get the door ajar light off do I also break the white piece off?
