How to fix a failing Ford PTU for good

How to fix a failing Ford PTU for good

If you’re driving a Ford equipped with AWD, you may have experienced grinding, clunking, or chattering coming from undercar. Often, the source of those noises is a failed power transfer unit. Replacing the failed unit with another that’s not serviceable instantly puts an expiration date on the new part—the clock is ticking until the next replacement. End the cycle of endless replacements!

Richard Conrad says:

So is this installed differently than the OEM model? 3:09 minute mark of the video makes it sound like it is installed differently… But why?

EE GG says:

Dorman. Known for some great ideas executed by the worst Chinese suppliers in the least durable and worst quality way. No professional mechanic would risk his labor on this imported junk. Generally this garbage is sold to the hacks who'll be impressed by this guy's nose ring.

Anthowine Bradford says:

Yeah I'm going to need to go ahead and order me that because I think I'm going to kick this Ford explorer that I got and I know when it feels I want to have to go through this number so if you can leave me a link to the website where I can what I want thank you and have a great day

A Good Neighbor Auto repair 1 says:

Very nice explanation

Ryan C says:

Nice upgraded features. Too bad Dorman is NOT a name associated with quality or longevity. The Ford replacement units ARE serviceable now. Or like many people, drill and tap for a drain plug in your factory unit before it fails and service it at every oil change. Servicing this unit is far less difficult than having to change it.

Wrench Aholic says:

It's on backorder 90day possibly longer. Dorman doesn't specify a warranty. They told me to contact my local parts store. Autozone wants $1080 AnD a $400 core charge and couldn't tell me anything about warranty on this unit.

Sebastian Rosario says:

Where I can get this? Seems to be out of stock pretty much everywhere.

Wet Bread says:

Holy hell a drain plug! How Ford didn’t think of this is beyond me…lifetime fluid my butt!

joseph scarborough says:

I want to buy one where can I buy one and can it handle more torque???? And if so how much more???

Adeoye Bola says:

Put the link to purchase this unit in the comment section. I cant seem to find it anywhere online on amazon or ebay.
Thanks

Dustin says:

Do you have a model that will fit a 2013 taurus interceptor? Any difference besides the temp sensor in the police models?
