It might make it easier – I know on my Connect that you can see the
solonoid just from looking from above down into the engine bay. Mine’s
packed up and I just get one click, and the central locking makes a few odd
noises too. I got someone coming out tomorrow to look at it. I’m confident
it’s the starter motor.

So you do have to take the starter off to replace the solenoid?

richard housden says:

brilliant makes the job easy and saves a fortune on cost of a new and
complete starter

Hi mate, thanks for watching, nice to know that you liked it. Yes i ame in
Ireland, mayo to be specific alltho i’m not irish ^^.

WestronicsIrl says:

Well, if it is only one strong click is eaither a solenoid in the starter
or the main power wire from the battery, But if it is a series of
clicks, the problem is the earth wire going from the battery to the block of
the engine. Hope this helps.

check your gournd and positive lead to starter.

WestronicsIrl says:

Hello there and thanks for watching, Now,if it is only one strong click per
turn of the key it could be either a starter solenoid or main connection at
the starter, which is very simple to check. All what you have to do is just
connect a jump lead to the main connection on the starter and the positive
of the battery. But if there is multiple clicks per turn of the key is more
then likely bad earth lead, all what you have to do there is just put a jump
lead from the minus of battery to engine.

Nice bench review. Are you from Ireland?

Very helpful thanks, do you think the solenoid could be the problem I’m
having with my Berlingo? It has started now and then to make a clicking
noise when i turn the key, I had a new battery fitted last month and it
seems to be holding a good charge ok. Would welcome your thoughts!

I think its the solenoid on my car thats going out. I can start my car up
an it will drive but once I park an turn it off it wont start again it I
try an start it right after it will make just a clicking sound after a few
hours it will start back up again with out a problem. I just got a new
battery for it an we cleaned the battery cables could that still be the
solenoid thats causing these problems like its trying to go out or its
about to go out please let me know. Thank you for this video.

I’ve just replaced the solenoid, but when I turn the ignition there’s only
a click. I’ve tested the motor and its fine. and the solenoid pulls the
push rod.(on it’s own). but when wired to the van, no joy, any ideas?
