So I decided to do some videos on common procedures specific to Fords. This is a must after any engine or transmission repair and you don’t have access to a scan tool to clear the KAM manually. Many times the pcm will still be using the learned values and compensating for the problem you just repaired. This procedure is good for all model years late 80’s to current but is much more important on 2004+ model years that incorporate a electronic throttle body system. Dual Battery setups require both batteries to be disconnected.

I am not an electrician so I don't understand very well this procedure. It seems like you are creating a short circuit by connecting both ends to the positive instead of draining the remaining energy. It seems harmful for the pcm, but not sure. Would connecting both ends together (out of the batt) do the same effect of draining the energy inside the car's electronics, maybe also turning on the headlights? Would this work on a 08 explorer? Thanks

And would an obd not clear it

My o5 Navi isn't shifting to 5th or 6th I just replaced the tranny would this be a cause

Awakening Call says:

Dose it work for ford fusion hybrid 2016?

Jarrod Lespreance says:

Don't arc from red to negative. Just disconnect black battery terminal. Then turn headlight switch on. Almost instantly drains your auxiliary power with no damages. Leaves current empty. Then, switch key over but don't turn engine over. Leave your foot on brake and wait. It's gonna reset and sweep all guages. Then you're good.

I'm glad I found you.

Whats the best method to drive a manual after the reset to learn?

larry wright says:

So you’re telling me you can take it out off like that ground it off on the other side on the positive to the negative with a negative unplugged on the battery and I’ll reset transmission shift mind shifts way too soon and second gear it’ll throw you in the seat and the transmission has been rebuilt

Hunter Blades says:

Thanks for the video! Literally cannot find a dealership with a technician available to look at this issue for me on my F-150 under warranty.

Paco Vaz says:

What scan tool you use to diagnose code?

Scott Ellis says:

Will this affect the ECM that’s been tuned and deleted ? I’m having hard 5/4 Down shifts .. not clanking but harder than before tunes .

Kevin's DIY Tips says:

This didn't work clearing P1000 on 06 Crown Vic 4.6L, caused I think by junkie AutoZone radiator fan module… wouldn't care except it disables my AC! Tried three times, up to an hour with jumper wire. Is it possible my ignition key needs to be on while jumper is discharging PCM? My only option is Ford service manual 14 step (60-90 min patience testing) Drive Cycle routine two times in a row! Finally half way thru after third try, I finally got the trip counter to increment…guess i can't follow directions and was messing up step 10! Sorry if this has already been answered but YouTube doesn't give us a way to search 100s of comments

Glad I found this video. 2010 escape with late/ hard shifts and rough and idles with rpm fluctuations. After clearing and relearning the pcm she’s holding a steady idle and shifting properly. Definitely wasn’t looking forward to replacing a transmission in a vehicle with less than 120k miles. Thank you so much!
