How To Bleed Air From Your Coolant, Plus Water Pump Replacement, Ford Mondeo 2L Duratec.

Water pump replacement, top radiator hose replacement as the hose is ballooned on the housing it fits onto due to a build up of crap…the hose could split and leak if left.
best way i know how to bleed the air from the cooling system after refilling with new coolant.

My mk4 duratec has done 164k miles and looking back now probably should have changed the pump when Iinstalled a new drive belt kit but I think I did that at about 125k. Surprising how the miles rack up.

great info. thank you for sharing

DaveH1977 says:

Does the mk4 Mondeo 2.0 tdci require a similar process?

the1beard says:

you need a mic windsock

Peter Morris says:

Try poking a screwdriver or hose hook in the rear hose, rather than removing it. This saves removing it completely and saves wasting coolant. Poke it in at the top if you can for maximum bleed effect.
Also, after a minute or so, bring the revs up to 3k or so. This has a huge effect on the water flow and helps with bleeding immensely.
Cheers Alan.

That is a very useful video for a Mk 3 Duratec owner as I am. Never drained the coolant in 17 years but my mileage is 79,000. That one you have look is very good condition bodily but the engine looks dirtier than mine.

Bas says:

Vacuum bleeding also works perfect!

Jack Warner says:

When I bought my first car, a Mark 3 cortina in 1982, I was told to fill the cooling system through the bottom hose into the block with the radiator cap off, then when water came out of the bottom port of the radiator to quickly push the hose back on.

Another informative video Alan.well done mate

lascar48 says:

Does the mk3 diesel self bleed or does it need the same bleeding method?

Monkeh says:

What's with the influx of yank renting from you anyway Alan? Is it anything to do with the number of airfields local?

Advent Cliff says:

Just think. Many years ago you could remove any part in engine compartment without dismantling body parts

Good informative video Allan
Just had a nightmare with my 2010 galaxy 2.0tdci duratourq
Where water was getting in the loom.
The previous owners had removed the scuttle panels the upper and lower and hadn’t resealed them up and the water has been accessible to the engine bay and running in the loom.
They had just taped up the loom with bare wires and the loom was live when it rains.
Also they broke the clip from the fuel temperature sensor so when I was going through the loom the plug for the fuel temperature sensor came loose and once all the wiring was repaired the engine fans were on continuously.
I went right through everything again today to find the damaged plug on the sensor.
If people are not sure on how to repair a vehicle competently then leave it to someone who can because they will cause more damage than the initial repair.

Thank you for all your replies
