First off… thanks so much for the video. It took me two attempts before I got positive results.

Some history… from a cold start my 2009 Mustang 4.0 would idle up ok and then settle down as expected. But it would hesitate upon acceleration and seemed to be constantly "hunting" for the proper idle while driving at around 40-45 mph. I also had the occassional hanging idle when going from drive to park, and when sitting at idle the engine rpm's would drop off drastically whenever the cooling fans activated.

I made the usual attempts to correct these issues… changed air filter… removed and cleaned throttle body… changed plugs… I even swapped out the original TPS for a new OEM, (desperation had set in). Then I saw this video.

The first reset seemed to go alright until I shut it off. Everytime I would try to restart it, it would start and quickly stall. After getting it running again I decided to do another reset. So far so good. No noticable hesitation. Cooling fan, A/C on full, and nothing seems to upset the idle now. I haven't really pushed her too hard yet as I want to let this reset take full effect.

I do have a couple of questions though. Should this reset be initiated when the vehicle is totally cold? And, would you recommend using the "Overdrive Off" button during test drives? My driving habits usually require the OD button be off for around-town driving, and on when highway driving. Just not sure how best to teach the ECM this. Thanks Again!

Hello! I need some help with my 2006 Mitsubishi Outlander SE and showing code p2138 I had changed the accelerator pedal sensor & throttle body but still the car is in limp mode in a couple of driving only. My question is, since I replaced both the sensor is this re learning is applicable too with my car? Hope you will response to my question thank you so much!

How would one calibrate a fusion hybrid where the ICE engine shuts off after a minute of idling?

Danny Y says:

Drew says:

Hey there,
I know this video is a few years old I have an 18 escape that I bought used with the 2.5 engine… planning on changing the batt soon and I found the batt reset procedure should I also do this procedure as well? Do I also need to do the jump leads Or can it drain on it’s own as I’m swapping out the batt? And I’m assuming batt producer 1st then throttle. Between you and fordboss you guys are life savers.

TRAY NICE says:

Is the the same as forced idle?

Jim Bo says:

does calibration have to be done on a 2008? thanks

Andy says:

Wow…this video is 8 years old but ya know what…it really helped me today!!!! I had changed out some parts recently (EGR solenoid, o2 sensors, fuel filter, air filter), removed and installed the throttle body, and disconnected the battery several times. I couldn’t figure out why my gas mileage was suddenly so bad afterwards. I did this procedure and it completely fixed my gas mileage issue. Thank you!!!!

CHICO and the VAN says:

Installed a new throttle body now she won’t start.

8gomerpyle22 says:

When you clear out the capacitors, don't many other saved engine parameters also get reset besides the throttle body position?

D F says:

I just had my throttle cleaned…. I'm not sure if my mechanic did this

2015 Taurus Limited, 3.5 V6 engine. Had P2111 (Throttle Actuator Control System Stuck Open) show up 3 times on my code reader after my car died on me 3 times on the way home from lunch. It always started back up and ran fine. Decided to replace ETB at about $90 instead of cleaning because I didn't want my engine to go to idle when I was in traffic. Followed your instructions and now the car is running great again. Thank you!
