I hope it does the trick!
I have the same problem on a 90 f150. no up no down, no noise at all when using either switch. Gunna try this later today thanks for the info
I would suspect the switch since they both stopped at the same time. Or a bad connection somewhere.
I have a ’93 Ranger that both windows stopped working at the same time. I replaced the circuit breaker and have power to master switch. Could the master switch be my problem?
Hi, if possible try to apply voltage directly to the motor. If it works, then you know it’s the switch or a bad connection somewhere. Good luck!
I have a 1994 ford explore and the passage window is not working with either door switch, both passenger & drivers. Would you still recommended cleaning the switch?
Thanks
Thanks, glad you liked the video!
I’m glad it was helpful for you!
Excellent “how to”, thanks!
this is one of the reasons i love YouTube
Too bad, that sounds like you need a replacement. At least you know how it works though!
Ok, I found out what was wrong with mine. My contacts were corroded. I cleaned them off and thought it would fix it. It didn’t.
What I found out what, the 3 prongs underneath. One of the prongs melted off on the end. So with I hit the switch up, the contact isn’t making a clean connection. Not a good enough push on the metal tab to make a solid connection
Yes that metal tab that goes up and down that touches the contact. Its end broke off. I wish I could just buy that metal tab for cheap. I do have a solder at home. I”ll give that a shot.
I don’t think you can buy the internal parts. It may be able to take solder, though. Good luck!
The end part of my switch broke off and not it’s not making any contact. Is there a way to by the switch for cheap so I don’t have to buy the whole unit or can I solder something on where it makes contact.
as a FIY if the drivers window is the only window affected check the relay mounted on the lower door it is called a one touch relay for the auto down function
relay cost is aprox 20 – 30 master switch can cost 60 -70
Good deal. Driving around with a hangover and a window that won’t roll down is a very bad combination!
thank you thank you thank you it is same for 96 mustang this saved me 70 bucks and a hangover good job
Cheap cars and free fixes are two great things!!
Just bought a “93 Explorer 4×4 from my good friend for $500. He’s gonna be pissed when he finds out how easy his former window was to fix along with a bunch of other easy fixes I found on YouTube. Thanks a bunch jenniesgarage!
Good luck, I hope it’s an easy fix!
Thanks ! I will try this on our 99 Ranger.
Can u do a vid for a f150 passenger side..
Good job! Glad you liked the video!!
Man, you just saved me so much money. This fixed every single window on my Contour.
very out of focus…use alcohol and brush 1st….usually only if terminal doesnt clean, then use fine sand paper or scrap with flat screwdriver, and clean with alcohol after you scrap or sand, and air dry or use compressed air
great vid, but 1st thing you should do it your window doesnt work is test for power at the main switch , if power is coming out of the switch, then test for power at the switch where window is not working, if there is power at the switch, then you shouldnt take switch apart, possibly motor problems..sometimes banging on motor with small hammer does the trick. most motors if opened up are hard to reassemble. usually replacement is recommended.
Yeah it’s a design that will always eventually fail. Glad I could help out. Thanks!!
Glad to help! Too bad about the motor, though 🙁
Thanks for this video! I did a friend’s with pretty much the same method as you but his wasn’t a Ford.
Unfortunately this didn’t work for mine and I’ve determined it’s actually the motor itself! Thanks!
Thanks for the kind words. It’s definitely a problem that all of these switches will eventually have.
I just wanted to say thank you, not just for saving me the hundred bucks, but for saving me many hundred bucks for years to come. this poor design is certainly going to continue to be a problem and im sure a new one would just have the same problem again in a couple years. so now i know how to do it myself i sincerely thank you.
Video was good though, fixed the switch in my sisters crown Vic after watching this, so I do appreciate you taking the time to make the video-even out of focus a little I was still able to get’er done.
I know, sorry… I am accepting donations for a new camera, though 🙂
Out of focus!
