Happy to hear that! I was surprised how easy it was too. You can buy life
time brakes at autozone for $20. I bought the cheapest ones figuring they

Good for you !! It’s not that hard, For me, the hardest part is getting the
tire off and only cuz I don’t have the upper body strength like a man does
so losing the lug nuts is tricky… I use my whole body weight by stepping
on the socket wrench to losing.. I don’t have a socket drill so it’s all
done with brute force. hahaha

I never heard of adding grease to the brakes. It sounds like a bad idea,
but if that is what you found from a reliable source make sure you do it.

Thanks doublewide6, I watched this before doing my own car in case there
were any traps or special tools needed. One thing maybe, if the old pads
are worn right down you should note that pushing back the pistons may
overflow the master cylinder reservoir.

If the caliper bolts turn the rubber slider/nut you need a thin 17MM wrench
to hold it. My Craftsman wrench was too wide but the Husky brand fit

When I collapse the piston on the caliber I always use one of the old brake
pads and put the C-clamp on it so they are no chance of chirping or busting
the piston.

I’ve heard of using grease, but that was just a dab where the pins on the
break pads slide into.. And that was just so they clip in easier.. But most
times you don’t need to.

i recently looked at the brakes on my fusion and they looked about the same
as your in your video. i though, “i have plenty of brake left” its not 3
weeks later and my brakes are making noise and grinding under hard braking.
the guys at your dealership have probably ran into this as well. i think
the pads wear faster once they get down so low. thanks for the video. i am
changing mine in the morning. also, i have heard that grease or dirty
finger prints can cause hard spots and uneven wear.

Dontcha love it when the inspection shop ‘recommends’ work that doesn’t
need to be done? My old mechanic was a Ford dealership that knew that I
could do it myself. A couple of points, you should be careful about letting
the brake hang down, esp with a c-clamp on it. Throw a block of wood under
it. Your wheel doesn’t even have any brake dust on the rim, nice.

I have some comments 🙂 Lot of the stuff has been pointed out already by
others. I have phenolic caliper pistons so the last thing I would do is to
stick a clamp directly on any part of it. I’m also a great believer in
taking out the slider pins, inspecting, cleaning, then using a good
synthetic brake lube on them. If they don’t slide, the pads wear unevenly.
Lastly, the last time I upgraded to ceramic pads. Less wear and tear on the
rotors and much less brake dust on the front wheels. 🙂

Have fun with the double nuts on the caliber? The inside but is loose and
looks to take a special wrench, as a regular one is too fat to fit. Plus,
the reason the pads aren’t wearing fast(did mine at 67k and there was still
room) is because they are ceramic. The junk Chinese rotors actually wear
out first! Thanks, Ford!

I hear what you are saying, but how much could it really over torque it?
The torque wrench is set to the same setting, so it should not be much out
of the tolerance on the wrench. Using a torch wrench is not like using a
dial indicator.

The grease on the back of the brake reference from other commentors is from
the recommendation of adding a little silicon to the back of the brake
shims, if you are using brake shims, to reduce the squeaks and other noise
from the wheel. That’s all the lubricant is recommended for.

Great video, but one thing i noticed that you did not do that is supposedly
recommended is to use the grease on the back of the pads. Any reason why
you didn’t do that? Incidentally I am doing my Fusion this weekend so this
helped.
