Dave Reid says:

Thanks, I will be doing this job shortly. I’ll add the extra steps the
comments have pointed out of removing spark plugs to make the engine easy
to turn, and lining up all timing marks before taking the belt off.

Andrew Calcote says:

Great howto video on timing belt change. Adding the link to where you got
your parts kit was also a great help. I’ve changed out timing belts in the
past and it is not for the faint-of-heart. Your video took some of the
fear factor out of it. Just follow the steps. Previous comment from Greg
Trimble was a good point. You were OK on your video, but you should make
sure to align the timing marks on both the top and bottom (cam, and crank)
pulleys prior to pulling off the timing belt otherwise you could be 180
degrees out of phase and then it would be disaster for your engine.
Sometimes if these notch marks are hard to see I would paint them with
something white. Makes them standout more, plus it make you conscious of
the fact that they are there and important….paint the marks, align the
marks, THEN pull the belt. Also on purchasing a “kit” for timing belt
changes. If you’re going to change the timing belt, and the water pump,
and the timing belt tensioner you should also change the Serpentine Belt,
and it’s tensioner as well. Along with the motor mount that was pulled.
Again this was a great howto video. Thanks again.

Greg Trimble says:

Just watched your video and you did a great job overall, but there is one
step you did that could be problematic. Before taking the timing belt off,
you should make sure your cam and crank marks are aligned. The reason is,
the crank turns twice for every rotation of the cam. In essence, you got
lucky, your timing could have been 180 degrees off and been catastrophic.
Other than that, a great overall video.

hey man thanks for taking the time to make this walk through. i always try
and find a good resource such as this in order to see what im getting into
before i start such a job. there are quite a few videos pertaining to the
same topic but very few with such detail and as thorough as yours. not to
mention providing a link to where you found your parts, definite plus right
there. i just picked up a focus last night to fix and sell and you’ve
helped me out a great deal already! thanks again!

Chass Leal says:

Very good but now ruling the march and probably the clutch, I’m desperate
because my focus is not working properly. Greetings from México.

HotDayPleatherSeats says:

Yes, I haven’t had any problems with it. Thanks.

Michael Janczyn says:

Don’t know if you’ll see this, but still happy 2 months later?

lckeeper1 says:

Great video! Thanks for documenting the procedure!

HotDayPleatherSeats says:

I watched your video. I’ve never replaced a piston, but it sounds like
there’s electricity, so I’m thinking fuel line. I did have a bad set of
spark plug cables once and I recall a similar sound, but it’s hard to tell.
I usually just go through process of elimination to find the problem. You
may be able to get a rental computer from AutoZone and find the error code,
that may help.

Gordon Young says:

Really helpful, I might just tackle mine now, thank you

Joshua Krone says:

THANK YOU VERY MUCH, it is always nice to find some help before taking on a
new project.

danielvertamatti says:

MrWiseinheart says:

I really liked your reply your a good man, thanks for the video by the way.

ruthjs2k says:

Very informative and helpful…thank you for making this!

Lindsayinlove says:

Thank you so much. This really helps.

luis juarbe says:

I have a 2001 focus with the splitnport engine. Should the process be the
same?

HotDayPleatherSeats says:

Good question, It is indeed a 2.0 SOHC.

Peter Ralph says:

Hey. Thanks for the vid. Good stuff there

Michael Janczyn says:

Thanks for the great walkthrough

masteruser0 says:

just a tip: to make turning the cam and crank easier when timing a vehicle
you can take out the spark plugs. this will let the air escape from the
spark plug holes instead of compressing inside the cylinder making it very
easy to turn the crank and cam.

HotDayPleatherSeats says:

Why the anger & incivility? Actually it does have a timing belt. You have
only succeeded in making yourself look foolish and inexplicably angry over
something so trivial. I hope that you’ll be able to resolve whatever
happened in your life that made you so unfriendly. Whatever it was, it
probably wasn’t even your fault but it’s definitely not helping you in life.

dorados1 says:

Thank you sir for the video! This was very helpful

Don Fast says:

Very helpful video. Thanks for posting it.

James Beard says:

This was very helpful ! Nice job on the vedio,it has good detail.

MaltaMcMurchy says:

No shit that you’re not a mechanic sherlock. For starters, the 2000 Ford
Focus has an accessory belt, not a timing belt dumbass.

jiangfsh says:

Hi, sir, I have a problem with my focus after I replaced one of piston. It
can’t start, here’s the video: nriwUcHIC5Q. I followed your video to put a
new timing belt on. can you guess what the problem with my car ? thank you

John Graham says:

Great video and I accidentally scraped the water pipe running from the
water pump to the radiator and it started to leak, glad it happened while
working on the timing belt,a much easier job now that I just need to
procure one to end this project, Thanks for your post…..
