I just tried this and it worked thanks for the info
great info
Thank you so much for this video. It took me longer to find my soldering
iron and solder than it did to make the repair. Problem was exactly as
described. I used both hands though.
Thanks a million. Like someone else said, it took me longer to gather the
tools than it did to do the job. It’s not really all that important a
feature, but I love looking up and seeing “76° W”
Thanks for the vid, helpful but BRUTAL soldering! Paint on some flux to do
a clean weld.
Awesome!! Worked like a charm….thanks
Thanks for the video, very helpful.
Fix your F-150 console display
Soldered the 510s and 181s, it started to work, but stopped a second after.
So close!
Works exactly as you described. Took about 20 minutes thanks to good
directions.
Kick Arse! Just fixed mine! Thanks!
Thank you. It worked.
thanks alot buddy! had this broken on my 03′ f150 forever and decided to
finally giver a try. the one chip was totally broken right off and i just
soldered it back on and it works perfect! now everything in my truck is
just minty! thanks again.
Thanks a bunch. I came across your post while looking for a replacement
part. I used a pick to check all of the ends of the resisters. I had two
with loose ends, which I soldered, and now the unit works as it
should…check the ends after you solder to make sure the solder fixed to
the resister and circuit board (as previously mentioned, flux will help).
Be careful not to solder across other circuit lines
Thanks for the video. It took less than 30 minutes to fix my 2003 F-150.
Thank you. Worked on my 2000 Ford Expedition. Only took 20 minutes.
Awesome! Just took me 30 minutes to fix my 2003 F-150 2x XLT Sport. Most of
that time was scrounging for tools and putting them back. Thanks!
my advice for soldering is take your time. it works much better if its hot
so don’t jump the gun!
Thanks! Mine quit and for some reason I really miss it. I’ll be trying this
soon.
fixed my 2001 lariat twice so far, saved at least 1000
Worked great , Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the vid. It really helped out. You really did your homework. It
worked great! thank you.
Awesome, it works. Those little bastards are a PITA, add tweezers to the
list of tools needed if the small ones are completely detached.
This is a great video! I already took the unit out of the truck, then look
the entire thing over and didn’t find any defects. But I got the idea to
check youtube to see if someone else had the same problem. I’m sure glad I
did. Showing the exact components to resolder was a great idea. Mine was
completely dead, I resoldered them anyway and it worked perfectly. I was
amazed. Thanks again
Thank you for posting the video. I just repaired a 2001 F150 XLT overhead
console with the help of your video. I just re-flowed the solder on the 510
Ohm resistor on both sides of the circuit board and it is working again.
Cheers!
EXCELLENT video!!!! Now if you would do one showing how to fix the rear
cabin door I would be forever gratefull!!!!!
Thanx man, it worked! – Tim
Even though the resistors look properly seated go ahead and touch them up
with new beads of solder… The minuscule amount that Ford used on the
boards separated between one of them, I promise!
I had the same problem. This fixed mine!!! Thank you!
Hey, I said I was a novice! Thermo/compass still works to this day!
Thanks, great video. My solder joints looked awful, but they worked. Just
did the 510 resisters.
Wow this is great. Mine has been out for almost a year and I almost paid
$50.00 to a guy on Ebay to fix it for me. After watching the video it took
a total of about 15 minutes and 5 of that was the iron getting hot. Make
sure you use a FINE tip and you will be fine. Thanks Again!
i tried it out and worked like a charm. it took me about 30 minutes. thanks
for making this video, it was very helpful. I would just suggest that when
taking down the overhead console, some one helps with holding it down while
the connectors are being unplugged.
Thanks for the video..
HS it worked! You just saved me $280 bucks from the Ford guys. YouTube is
Awesome! It tore down and went back together just like you said. i was
skeptic at first because my resistors looked fine. I thought i had a deeper
problem when i saw the discoloration in the corner of the window, but i
pulled up your video again and saw you had it too, so i went for it. Presto
its working like a champ. I only did the two larger resistors, 510 i
believe. thanks again, great video.
Great job…..easy instruction…..I replaced the #10 torx with phillips
screws….went right to the source of the problem and works great !!!
Alright
if when you solder it and it comes out crooked it wont magically effect
something will it?
thanks it worked
Thanks for the video!!!….One of my ic’s wasn’t getting a good contact and
my sloppy, but workable, solder job fixed it right up. Took about 45
minutes start to finish. Thanks again for your walk through of the
problem/repair video.
This quick fix had my problem solved in 15 minutes. 2002 F150 SuperCrew.
I’ve had the truck for almost a year and it has bothered me since day one.
Glad I found this video. Excellent instructions.
my console was out for months ..works great definite fix…thanks for the
video
Way to go, dude!
02 superduty has same problem but a little different design, i soldered 4
poor resistor connections and worked great, Thanks for posting this fix.
Just fixed my overhead console. Thank you!!!
Thanks… That was easy. I was looking for a replacement when I found you
video and it saved me $100!
My problem is with the lamps. My temperature and compass part work fine.
But my lights don’t go on whether i press the button or door open.
Just got done doing mine. They looked perfect before i soldered them and i
soldered them anyway and i was shocked that it worked. i have never
soldered before. thanks for the tips. Estimate for shop repair was $500 and
soldering iron $15. solder $5 and star screwdriver set $13 total time no
more then 20 minutes.
I have a 2002 F250 and my overhead console got dim and then completely quit
working. The outer cover is a little different but the electronic parts are
basically the same. Just pop off the outer cover by pulling downward with
your finger tips., disconnect the wire cable, remove the 3 screws holding
it in place. There is foam backing on the electronic board, do not remove.
A cutout in the foam allows removal of 1 screw. Found 3 of the resisters to
have cold solder joints. Works great now. Thanks
