Is your truck not going any faster when you press the gas at speed? Perhaps you have experienced a noticeable drop in gas mileage lately. You could have a bad catalytic converter! We’ve got a step-by-step breakdown on how to replace the catalytic converter in your truck, including everything you need to know to get the job done.
This task can take anywhere from one to three hours to do. The task is moderately difficult since removal of the catalytic converter could be tough due to age. To do-it-yourself will cost forty-to ninety dollars. However, a professional will charge you one-hundred and forty to one-hundred and ninety dollars.
The tools you will need for the job are: a socket wrench set, a rubber hammer, a floor jack, and jack stands.
Step 1 – Jack Up the F-150
Raise the truck on level ground using a floor jack. Lift via the frame when raising the front end.
Place the jack stands underneath and then slowly lower the truck down onto them.
Step 2 – Locate the catalytic converter
Find the catalytic converter around three feet away from the engine going towards the muffler. Tap the catalytic converter with a hammer on both ends to remove loose debris.
Step 3 – Remove the Catalytic Converter
The bolts holding the catalytic converter to the mount should be loosened up by using a socket wrench and turning counterclockwise.
Step 4 – Install the Catalytic Converter
Take the new catalytic converter and push it towards the engine. Then slide it back onto the mount that the stock was on.
Replace the bolts and tighten them up in clockwise motion.
Step 5 – Lower the truck
Use the floor jack to raise the truck up enough to remove the jack stands from under the truck.
Take the truck out for a drive and see if there are any fumes entering the cab. If there are then go back and inspect the install job for any loose sections or holes.
Yo I gotta block this useless fucking video I keep clicking on it thinking it's going to help me.
Fuck off
this video sucks by the way… zero detail
Lmao that easy huh no torch no impact no cutting tools If your replacing the cat most likely the vehicle has alot of miles and the bolts that holds it together are seized so either undo them after you been driving for a bit or use a torch to heat the bolts up and then loosen
And you goons that uploaded this video think this is enough and accurate for us to follow? This is nothing but a big fat joke.
only 4 easy steps lol need better video then this
Stupidest video ever
I love the FTE website, there's tons of useful info, and helpful knowledgeable individuals on the forums. But, this video is a joke. Buy a new converter, take old one off, put new one on, all done.
if it was only that easy! Never!
they should also do an f150 twin turbo install video like this. "simply purchase a pair of turbos from your local vendor and bolt them on clockwise, tap them with a hammer, now you have 2000hp."
What a joke. I wish it was that easy lmao
The video is useless. It shows a muffler instead of a cat. You cant just tap a cat off with a soft hammer and its vuala!…really?
As soon as I realized the video was only 1:53 long I knew it was a wast of time to watch it. I was right ! oh I have to jack the truck up and take the old ones off before I can bolt on new ones ? Really !
oh…That's what direction you turn the bolts to remove the cat…that was my problem…now I know…really guys?!?
I want my 1:53 minutes back please lol
Pro price? Seriously? Where do I get these prices? Lol
About as useful as high heels on a cat.
I'm curious to where you guys got your "pro prices' ? Midas just quoted me $788 for both side.. Nuts..
Details are needed. This video doesn't accurately teach. Anything but what direction to turn bolts.
Useless. "to remove the cat, turn the bolts counter clockwise". Thanks, now I know everything.
Yes! I've always wanted to learn how =)
