Fixing the rear breaks on Ford Aerostar

The rear brakes seized on our new to us van. Thought I would attempt to fix them my self. Save a tow charge.

my organic vaccum cleaner lmao

336kgf says:

Don’t you mean BRAKES?

DW Red says:

The studs are long because that model van had an aluminum wheel option and
those wheel are thicker so when they are being built the studs will work
either way..

PestControl02 says:

haha..”organic vacuum cleaner” good one!

Homestead Acres says:

hm ok thanks man never realy noticed i will have a look

backwoods3214 says:

sounds like one side has bad hose colapsed. wont relese. cause on side to
wear faster. and outher isues

leonardo1480 says:

I hear if your not sure about how to fix something that you learn faster
how to fix things by tinkering around with it. just thinking about that
that very much how I learn to do stuff any ways lol ! good video 5 stars

nolanmontess87 says:

i think the shoes are on a taper for your parking break.

CMLovejoy says:

No. You dont need to replace shoes. Brake pads don’t wear evenly. 80% of
your braking power is in the front brakes. Good job on the jack stand. 5
stars for the organic vacuum cleaner

Wandering Beast says:

pesky drums, I have putting off doing mine, gonna try to save up and
converts to disc in the rear. good vid though, you did everything I woul.d
have done

VincentVonGoat says:

Shawn – I agree. My F-150 had the same problem (long run of the e-brake
cable wasn’t moving). Those are cables are pretty expensive to replace –
try some penetrating lube @ the separator plate under the driver’s door &
at the drum attach point. I’d also ensure the self adj has some anti-seize
in it (in case the last mech forgot).

ShawnCFarm says:

By looking at 4:42 looks like your right rear parking brake cable is stuck
on abit. You can see that the top of the front shoe is not touching the top
round post where the springs go onto. That would also acount for the uneven
wear on the front shoe.

Homestead Acres says:

hey man that makes alot of sense the other van has those aluminum ones
thanks

JEFF1Z says:

Doing it your self saves money i do mine they looked ok usaly look to see
how mutch to rivets on shoes front wheels do most of breaking should look
at them once a year some times if they have posi traction one wheel will do
that or other ajuster could be frozen

Claude Rains says:

Just a thought, Never use a impact to put lug nuts on. unless it’s a impact
socket made for the lug nuts. you will warp rotors and drums if they are
not torque down right.

wlfpck11 says:

yeaaa thats what happens with those rear brakea can suck but.. yea ive seen
that rear brake problem where on one side it locks up and smokes

Ewa Vorgrimler says:

Hi kitty~

smithraymond09029 says:

I didn’t know the Amish drove vans. I thought they stuck to horses and
buggies.

charitonfarmer says:

if it continues you might try removing the drums and taking them to a shop
and have them to turn the drums down, that will make sure that the inside
of the drums are true so you will get even wear on your brake shoes and it
will stop the vibrations and making it pull either to the left or right. if
the pulling persist you might need a four wheel alignment done, something
may be be out of line. great video my friends.
