Hi Rupert . Thanks for viewing my videos .I believe most of the replacement
arms you can buy are made from hickory. If I were to make one I would use
either hickory, oak or possibly red cedar would work. I know the inner red
core of cedar posts is very hard and takes a long time to rot. I would
avoid using steel. I remember a long time ago my Dad tried that once, he
said it felt like the tractor was going to rattle his teeth loose. lol.
That was with the very same mower and tractor in this video

there is a cam inside that hinge, it adjusts the tilt of the cutterbar.

Dragracer64 says:

Thanks. I found that adjustment. The mower has been trouble free since this
video was made.

Dragracer64 says:

Yes the welds did look bad, I think i mentioned it in the video. My mig
welder has been acting up for a while it got so bad a few weeks ago I
finally had to take it apart to see what was wrong. But the welds are
holding up great, I have been using this mower to keep a 2 acre field cut
every other week since this video was made. No problems what so ever.
Thanks for watching and commenting.

you can go to the new holland web site and get parts for them

Dragracer64 says:

Thanks, Since this video was made I have been using this mower once a week
with no troubles. The only thing I have done is replace some of the knife
blades, After seeing the new ones compared to my old ones I need to replace
the rest of them . But it still does a nice job on short grass.

Vey helpful video. Trying to repair one myself and seeing the parts and how
it works was real helpful. Missing the timber arm that drives the blade and
the mounting plates at the blade side. Any chance you could put up the
dimensions???

Dragracer64 says:

@choppermutt1 Glad it was helpful, and thanks for subscribing. The
dimensions of the pit man arm are 11/8″ X 2″ X 3711/16 ” long. Bought it
off of e bay for 25 $. The mower has worked perfect after three more cuts
since my last video was posted. I think the most important thing I did was
to make sure the pit man arm was aligned and not binding.

Hello Dragracer, great video. I have a vicon sickle mower with a broken
pitman arm.what type of timber would you recommend to make a new one. is it
possible to use some other material instead of timber?

Dragracer64 says:

First make sure all your knife blades are sharp, also make sure the blades
inside the knife guards are also sharp, a lot of people neglect to replace
those little blades and wear them out to where there is no cutting edge
left. Also make sure none of your knife guards are bent that can also cause
clogging. Tractor speeds and pto rpm can also play a factor in how it cuts
,experiment with that also.

I have a 501 sickle mower and I tried mowing with it, and it didn’t want to
cut and just get clogged up, any suggestions
