Damn!! I had been driving my 2001 ford ranger around for a year with this problem. Fixed it in 5mins. Faster than it took to watch the video LOL!!! You’re a life saver, thanks alot.
This was a GREAT video! Thank you for creating it! I have a 96 Ford Explorer and after I watched this I opened the door to the truck and the screw was sitting on the edge of the car mat! Did exactly as you said and we are back in business. Thanks again!
I was literally slamming the shifter to park to get the truck started, again TY.
Very helpful easy fix both screws were loose as hell and with your vid didn’t have to tear up my truck 02 ford ranger edge..thanks again!
You the man!
My excursion sat in my drive for three months. Bingo less then 5 minutes after the video FIXED! What a relief….Thanks again for posting this.
Thanks!! Mine was loose too, thanks for saving me!
Tnx men.
I am a Ducth guy living in the Philippines. It’s hard to find a good mechanic/garage for american cars here.
With my european roots i use the internet to maintain my 2000 Expedition.
So clear how you explain and show in the video.
(sorry for my bad enghlish);
Love American cars
I have a 2000 Ford Crown Victoria CNG. I have this lose gear change issue for the 2 months that I have had this car. Yesterday I found a bolt on the floor. I am so happy that your video is the first one and only one I looked at for this problem. I had to move the gear shiftier a little to line up the bolt but the issue is fixed.
Thank You
Poco Zocko
Thanks for the instruction. The T30 torx bolts to my 1994 F150 had backed out a couple of millimeters, but i used your guidance to tighten them. Now the truck shifts solidly, as it should. Thanks for the video.
Tip, Put some “Blue” Locktite on the bolt threads before you put them back in.
You have to hit the brake pedal to unlock the shift lever.
Thank you..Great Job!!
Thank you!!!!
Does the 98 Ford taurus have the same type of gear shifter?
I was at a Starbucks drive-thru and put my 2002 F350 7.3L in neutral, then shut the engine off to order my coffee. When I tried to start the truck again, it wouldn’t start or go into Park! Found your video and checked the bolts. Sure enough, they had both backed out 1/2″ each! Yikes, hate to see what would have happened if I thought the truck was in Park and watched the 9,500lbs beast roll away downhill! Thanks again for the information to a 5 minute fix!
Thank you! One bolt fell out of my wife’s expedition. I found the bolt and put it in and works great now. It took me about 5 minutes to fix.
THANKS my truck wont be going any where by it self now. the bolts were loose. It was easy !!! Thanks again senor.
ford ranger 99 that is not the case on my truck. must be something else
same thing happen on my P71 Crown Victoria. after i did that it shifts brand new and i get all my gear selections. good vid
thanks for your Help
I thought it was the bushing, so I called around, one shop wanted 500+ just to do that, ford wanted 100 just to look at it, before they ever turned a wrench. I found the same torx bolt and did this and it’s fixed! I love you!
I knew something was loose some where. Fixed it in just a few seconds. I know feel safe to park it anywhere. Thank You!
A Million Thank you’s you saved me a bunch of money .
I checked my screws and they were tight. Any other ideas?
Thank you!
Thank you very much. I found the bolt and with a little effort ” My Fat Fingers made it harder” I was able to do this myself. Excellent video.
Took me longer to dig through my tool box looking for the Torx bits than it took to tighten the screws! Thank you!
Why dosent Ford get recalled for their shifter problems, it has been a ongoing problem for decades on just about all their colume shifters….
Thank you so much! It worked for us and we are girls lol
Thanks for your video, this fix the problem!
my son and I had to manually put his truck in drive because it was stuck in neutral at midnight tonight. came home and watched this video. went to look for a loose bolt, my son found one on the floor board of his truck. thanks for posting this video broham!!
I had same issue and was afraid I would have to tear down my entire steering column. I watched your instruction and 10 minutes later my shifter was working perfectly on my 2002 F350. Thanks!
How do you get it into park
Worked like a charm. Thanks so very much!
I’ll try it.
This is amazing, I have had this into the shop a couple times and they wanted to replace the entire column for $850, thank you so much
I just used this video to fix my 97 taurus, thank you so much for saving me hours of work!
Awesome! Mine was a Windstar. Just like you described in the video.. Screw was under the mat…. This video saved me a lot of money and time… tried to take it to a few shops while on vacation (fourth of July) good luck… should have started with you-tube!!!!
I came across this and thought the transmission was going out. After a lot of research( never found your video unfortunately) I discovered the loose bolts was the problem. Tightened those bolts up and now it shifts like new. I had to remove some trim covering to really get access to this area. Glad you posted this video.
My 99 Expedition had the same I had the very same Problem On My 99 Ford Expedition it was between gears on the indicator on the dash thought maybe it was just the little indicator was off as there is a procedure for changing that in my Hayes Repair manual and did an Internet search and found your video thank goodness Many Thanks for taking the time to make the video it sure helped and saved a lot of time and frustration you were a lifesaver Thanks Again
2002 ranger 5 speed auto 4.0 v6 fixed. Would assume most column shift Fords share this design and problem over a quarter million miles. Awesome trucks, only thing to give out on mine so far at 180k
Had the problem with my 2000 Ford Ranger, thanks for a great video!
