BTW- A sub and cold beer makes this job easier.

FoMoCo1 says:

It will also cause very low cabin heating in the winter.

Moss Francis says:

Thanks a bunch. I’ve been trying for the longest to find out why my car
sounds like a truck 03 Infiniti g35 Mechanic told me it’s because my fan
clutch is aftermarket. I’m just glad I found out what was causing it.

volkscom says:

Where did you get the sandwich from? And would it be possible to eat a
whopper with cheese while changing fan clutch? Could i put my coffe into a
metal can and heat it up on the engine while i eat whoppers?

Thanks for recording video very helpful! ….have 2001 Ranger …going in
to rent tools to remove tommorrow, but dont know if their size is different.

Good video. Question: I have heard putting in an electric fan boost power
by letting the clutched fan be removed. Your thoughts?

Thecarguy1254 says:

Personally, I love the sound of a locked clutch fan, but I’m odd like that.

binglepup says:

Yes I will let you know. Doing research now and if all goes well when the
coin comes I will be making the swap. Trying to kick up economy and HP at
same time.

AsTheWheelsTurn says:

haha ,well I chose a traditional Italian style sub sandwich for this
particular operation but really anything delicious will do.

AsTheWheelsTurn says:

Thanks. no I didn’t have to take the radiator out, its possible that some
vehicles would require such a thing but not any of the ford rangers. I did
need to take the fan shroud off as you see in the video which is just the
plastic deal around the fan, with that loose you can pull the fan and the
shroud out at the same time and not have to remove the radiator. I rented
the clutch removal tools from Autozone.I know NAPA also carrys the removal
tools, any parts store should have them for rent.

AsTheWheelsTurn says:

I could definitely see how it would boost power because it would no longer
be creating drag on the engine, I was surprised by just how much drag it
created when it was stuck on on my truck, it was about as significant as
driving with the ac running. so not a HUGE difference but definitely
noticeable, I think it would be most noticeable off the line and maybe even
result in some better fuel economy. id make sure that the charging system
can handle the added electrical draw though.

1Bballa8 says:

lol so along with using a 10 mm wrench, what sandwich would you suggest
helps a person best in removing the fan clutch from the fan?

N13718 says:

Nice video. Can you tell me if you had to take the rad out? That’s what my
mechanic told me. Thinking of doing it myself now. Where do you rent the
tools.

Cultured Prick says:

I appreciate you posting this it will be slightly diff than my explorer but
it helps , i will never buy ford again

2004 ranger water pump

Thecarguy1254 says:

Thanks man, yeah the last 3.0 Ford I drove was a bit lousy accel wise, but
the 4.0 is good. I love the sound of a clutch fan only when its sometimes
engaged, but I think if it was engaged all the time I would go insane!

AsTheWheelsTurn says:

it should be very similar if not the same.

AsTheWheelsTurn says:

ps if you make the switch let me know how it goes , thats actually a really
interesting idea.

Carter Kuia says:

Is this the same instructions for a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT?

Cesar Sotomayor says:

Thank You very much, I follow your directions and that was all. very
helpfull

AsTheWheelsTurn says:

haha well I suppose it might be different on different vehicles but on mine
it is actually so loud it is distracting, sounded like a city bus going
down the road, not to mention it creates drag on the engine, wastes gas,
slows acceleration ect so on and so forth, but each to his own. by the way
I love the 0-60 videos on your channel. I am pretty sure my truck does zero
to 60 in about 6 years. the v6 auto 3.0 is quite the pig. tows decent
amoutn of weight and very reliable but it takes its time

AsTheWheelsTurn says:

your welcome, glad it was helpful.
