Advance Auto is charging $30 for these split flanges, and that does not
include the connecting bolts and springs. If you need 2 flanges like I did
then you’re looking at $80+ which is ridiculous for what you’re actually
getting. So I made my own flange repair brackets out of U bolts and sheet
metal, out of principle. :D
+Guns & Gears hello, awesome video, how did you get the rusted bolts off?
I have the same issue right now and don’t see a good way to get them off.
Thanks!
Holy cow – $26 for that split flange. I bought one at a local auto supply
store a few years ago for less that $10. Anyhow, this is indeed the right
way to go. It saved me $$$$
My 2002 Chevy tracker.. God love that beat up piece of crap… The
converter fell off from years of rust and of course upstate NY weather. I’m
gunna try using an exhaust repair kit on it because I don’t have the money
for a welder or for someone else to fix it at the moment. How long does a
repair like this stay for?
cant see what you are doing. I would like it if you would redo the movie
and show us using some bright light. you sound like you know what you are
doing, but please can we see…..?
That’s not loud. My exhaust came off about 20 minutes ago and it was so
loud it sounded like a top-fuel dragster was driving beside me lol Thanks
for the help!
That must be a common connection on Japanese cars. I had to do that last
summer to my kids ’99 Honda. Looks to be the same type of connection. Part
of the converter pipe slides into the exhaust pipe with a doughnut to seal,
then the flange and the spring bolts. When I bought the new split flange,
the guy at the auto parts store said “WOW, those are expensive”. I said
“Yeah, but not near as much as a new converter.”

(including me) knew about split flanges.

Thanks!
Nice. I hadn’t seen these before and they are under 20 bucks. Very kewl
This is a good one! Many thanks for doing it, and posting it.
what napa part number should i use on my subaru?
Why five thumbsdown??? (Prolly exhaust shops) lol
Awesome help. thanks
Dyi… The best
Cadillac converter :)
kinda looks like you put it on backward id rather have that lip pulling on
the old nub of the original flange then pushing away from it.
Please clear your throat before you make a video
my question is: Do you have to cut the old flange completely out??
If you are ever in Wis. I owe you a case of beer. $400 saved on my wife’s
97 Outback.
It probable would not be a bad idea, just make sure there is something that
the new flange can catch on.
2000 chevy tracker same fix
does it need the flange, cant you just cut of the flanges and weld a pipe.
DIY way , works the best
You could cut & weld but if you ever need to replace the exhaust after the
cat it would make it more difficult.
