DIY Fuel Injector Cleaning & Repair

DIY Fuel Injector Cleaning & Repair

This is the end result of a few hours of work and $60 because I didn’t have a 1/4″ NPT tap in any of my kits. I could have done this for less-than $40. The B…

muy bueno tu video… pero esta muy laborioso, es mucho trabajo es mejor con la tina de ultrasonido y un pulsador. solo es mi opinion pero cad quien tiene u propio metodo…!

bobl78 says:

its always good to redline a cold engine, that way it will warm up faster and wear out faster… so everything will be faster

Pretty much! Go Dawgs!

That’s cool. Using a pipe bomb to clean your tuners inj’ks… Lol

Cleaning injectors? Or just a coverup for cooking meth?

Toto Guy says:

not so easy with commonrail diesel injectors

Jafromobile says:

It depends on where you are. Your perspective. To the people with time and easy access to the things I demonstrated, it’s worth the challenge, time, and saves you $150 if you have the patience.

And to be fair: I suppose it’s cruel to those with a different location, physical condition or mental disposition that prevents them from being able to do this. Especially if they have access to YouTube. There’s going to be a lot of that kind of thing going on.

I’m sorry for those who can’t.

is it 12 volts that you used in injector manually

Bab video, too much jive, too fast, no dialog. Waste of time.

what’s BG?

TCTInvader33 says:

Dude thats ALOT of uneeded work and risk and not everyone hasspare feul rails or electrical what ever you were useing laying around. The amount of time vs risk vs actual money saved I had no choice but to give a thumbs down. However your way looked fun and entertaining but I dont want to spend all day cleaning and checking injecters every 30-40k.

Very clean engine bay. 90% of the DSM’s I see today don’t look like that.

I HATE WHEN PEOPLE CALL THIS DIY. DO IT YOU, YOU THAT CAN DO IT, YOU THAT KNOW WHAT TO DO, YOU THAT HAVE THE TOOLS

Cliff Knight says:

hi, thank you for the video. I need to overhaul the HEUI injectors in my Isuzu 4JX1. There is no overhaul kit for this injector. However springs can be copied by using the same steel and windings by a aircraft workshop. Solenoids can be checked/overhauled by aircraft electrics shop. I notice the piston O-ring is green so probably Viton. Do you think it is correct to source Viton O-rings of the correct size for all applications inside the injector?

Jafromobile says:

2/2 …but you can rig it up to back-flush them.

Jafromobile says:

Probably not any different. I can get the cleaner easier than I can get that tool. So I made this. Many other people have it differently than I do. I just wanted visual verification that they all work.

This little experiment made me brainstorm about all kinds of other crazy uses while I was messing with it. This isn’t any kind of magical invention, it’s just another way clean them. Ultrasonic and chemical treatments have long since proved themselves effective. Probably safer, too. 😛

Bighappy says:

So how much more effective is it cleaning the injects this way, as opposed to just running the BG through the system?

xfire7 says:

Great , thanks a lot. I`ve got a BMW 650 single motorcycle thats running lean and I think its the injector. I`ll have fun making a purge rig. I`ll probably go out and explain to my tail what I`m doing though!

HB392SRT8 says:

A good full service injector cleaning should include all of the following:
1. The top of the injector has a micro-filter pushed into it. These should be removed, thrown away and new ones installed.
2. Ultra-sonic cleaning while the injector is being pulsed.
3. Back flushing the injector.
4. Install new o-rings/seals & pintle caps.
5. Accurate flow testing before & after to validate both the cleaning and normal operation of the injector (back to original specs).

deepsquat600 says:

one mistake buddy 9 I love your videos..Brians mobile and Fric the car guy) ..but you screwed up NOT wearing eye protection …especially while you had your face down by the chemicals while trying to fire off the stuck injector…shame on you LOL

Jafromobile says:

I’ve used an old-skool 9V cordless drill battery to provide enough juice through a thin copper wire wrapped around a cigarette to light it. Some of those batteries carry a LOT of current.
Know what you’re working with amperage-wise. I would go for lower milliamp batteries like dry cell AA batteries, wired in series to get 12v. It would take 8 batteries for high-Ω injectors, and would deliver between 600-900 mAh. Alkalines are between 1300-3000mAh or 1.3A – 3A. Most 12v drills are around 3A.

Ellen Ferraro says:

Would a 12V cordless drill battery (NiCd) be a better option for testing high resistance injectors like the 210cc 6G72 injectors I use? I am glad I did more homework before I used the car battery!

Jafromobile says:

…now that is %*^king brilliant. It doesn’t hold much, but you can do it more than once. Take it off, drain it. Put it back on, fill it. Crank it.

That would have saved me $29. My only luxury from this evercise was seeing the spray pattern actually work once it was un-clogged.

I’m sure the method you described would have worked fine for me if I had faith in it to think of it then. The $5 fuel filter solution means you just won a thread with 380,000 views.

Chris Lesmerises says:

just fill your fuel filter with straight injector cleaner and reinstall

very stupied idea!!!
in servis price clean is few beers

captaincaveman1 says:

You know what you should do next time you try a flush is build a fitting for your injection cleaning tool that will hook it to the fuel rail. You disable the fuel pump and run the engine off of injector cleaner. You’ll clean the rail, injectors, valves and the combustion chamber that way all at once.

Elijah Rose says:

nothing ricey about performance. if it was that sound coming from some regular non tuned pos then it would be rice. that ride is nice not rice.

GUSTAVO SOLIS says:

te vendo un pulsador,si quieres no cres que si pones tu ,boya en el auto,y lo prendes ,te ahorras mas tiempo,no necesitas nada, solo hacer las respectivas coneciones… saludos

JustinHansen6669 says:

To the guy who asked about Diesel engines, not quite sure in psi for older injectors but in new gm applications they are approaching 20k + psi. You have to remember that with diesel the injector has to over come the compression pressures due to them opening at TDC not like a gas engine that opens during the intake stroke

Jafromobile says:

Yes indeed, it is a homemade fuel injection tool hooked to an air compressor made with cast iron pipe, cast and air fittings. Voltage will depend on the KIND of injectors you have. High impedance injectors should be 12v with LOW current (not your car battery), and low impedance injectors work best with 4.0v (3 slightly-used AA batteries).
I used one AA with low-Ω, and that’s why I limited my compressor to 20lbs. The injectors needed more than 1.5v to open at higher pressures. So I learned.

Steve Cimo says:

Is that a homemade fuel injection tool hooked to an air compressor made with some cast iron pipe, caps and air fittings? How many volts do you apply to the injectors to make them fire – 12v? What did you mean about getting them too high – the air pressure?
