Would a ford explorer or expedition with say 110,000 for 12,000 good ? And what should I look for I ten take to mechanic but figure ask if worth looking at? I need a affordable vehicle tow my 14ft boat but has 4 doors for family.

Toyotas fall apart too, they have cheap plastic and the paint job on Toyotas is the worst cheapest paint in the automotive market, if the same wire goes bad in a Toyota you call it a minor repair but if that same wire goes bad in a Chevy or Ford you call it a junk, crap etc, come on Scotty you can do better than that.

hey scotty i have this same model focus with 120k miles and literally last night my battery light came on but shut off when i hit 3000 rpms. the alternator and battery was replaced 3 months ago. wiht it shutting off at 3000 at rpm i assumed the alternator i got went bad already but i was wondering if u think it m ight be something else

I did quite like Focus mk1, drove 1.8 for a couple of months in early 2000. Looking at specs now 115bhp Mpg figures 30-40. Had 1998 Honda Civic 1.5 Vtec-E few year ago 114bhp 0-60 not far off Focus, Decent size Family Hatch Quiet, Smooth Ride and On Long runs over 50mpg, Japan wins every time for me
Considering The Age of these Focus are same as my Honda HRV, Engine bay in HRV looks Empty compared to Focus and so much easier to work on
Everyone should know FORD makes crap unless its a truck
I like when Scotty repairs these older type of cars, not the fancy new ones nobody can afford these days.
The first generation Focus was a good car. I only ever had 3 problems with them.
The alternator is one of the worst things I've ever had to replace in a vehicle. It's buried behind the engine and is a pain to replace.
The battery cables, especially on the earlier years were very bad. They would melt and could actually short and possibly catch fire.
The automatic transmissions start to have problems at 120k miles usually, however, I have had them go over 200k with no problems. One with a manual will last forever though.
A Porsche with a manual transmission is always a great car.
